SAINT ANDREW THE APOSTLE

ANDREW SCHAFALE
EARLY LIFE

• Andrew was born early in the 1st century


A.D.
• He was born in the fishing village of Location of Bethsaida

• His father was a fisherman, so Andrew
and his brother Simon Peter were brought
up as fishermen too
MEETING JESUS
• Andrew had spent much of his life as
a disciple of John the Baptist when he
met Jesus
• When Jesus came to Bethsaida, John
the Baptist gestured towards him and
said “Behold the Lamb of God” and
Andrew understood he was looking at
the Messiah
THE CALL TO BE AN APOSTLE
• Andrew and Simon Peter were out
fishing when Jesus called out to them
• He asked them to follow him and be
“fishers of men”

apostle, followed shortly by Simon

FOLLOWING JESUS
• Andrew followed Jesus throughout
his ministry
• Andrew was the one who told
Jesus about the fish and loaves
the day the thousands were fed
• Andrew was also present at the
last supper, as he was very close
to Jesus
MISSIONS AND MARTYR
• Andrew continued to preach from Kiev,
Ukraine, to far into the middle East
• Andrew was arrested and sentenced to
death in Patras Greece
• He was sentenced to crucifixion, but
asked for an x-shaped cross because he
was not worthy enough to be killed on The x-shaped cross
