Batavia High School Course Syllabus

Course Name: Advanced Algebra


Teacher: Course Description: ​Advanced Algebra is the
capstone algebra course designed to prepare
Samantha Miller college-bound students for higher level math courses
​samantha.miller@bps101.net and the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE). The
course makes regular use of the graphing cal​culator
to make technology an integral part of the problem
solving process. Topics include quadratic functions
and inequalities, polynomial functions, radical
equations and inequalities, ra​tional expressions and
equations, exponential and logarithmic relations,
systems of equations, and probability and statistics.

Prerequisite: ​Intermediate Algebra

● Required Materials: ​3-ring binder used for Course Fee: A graphing calculator is required
math only or notebook, pencils, graphing
calculator (TI-83, TI 84)

Textbook Information: ​No Textbook - will be using Special Dates: ​Unit exam retakes will be available
Canvas for course materials during midterms. A comprehensive Final Exam will
be given at the end of the semester.

Zero Policy:
● If a student is present and does not turn an
assignment in it is put in as a “0”. If a student
is absent then a score will not be entered and
student will be given a set amount of days to
make-up the work.
● If a student is not present on a test or quiz
day, that student has a week to make it up. If
the test is not made up within a week a “0”
will be entered. If a “0” is entered, then
students must go through the remediation
process and take the “Retake Test” within the
remediation time period. If students do not
go through the remediation process, the
grade remains a “0”.

Students will be rated as “Meets” or “Does Not Meet” for each course. Teachers will update ratings
on the 15th and 30th of each month.
ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY
Batavia High School believes that learning best occurs in an atmosphere of academic honesty in which students
have developed a high sense of responsibility and exhibit a high standard of integrity. Batavia High School will
not tolerate nor condone academic dishonesty.

Definition of Cheating/Academic Dishonesty​ - Cheating occurs when a student obtains or assists others in
obtaining credit for work that is not his/her own.
➢ After a student has been found to be academically dishonest, they will face ​both ​academic ​and
behavioral​ interventions.
