The four category of automobile namely passenger, commercial, three, two wheeler vehicles the period
under consideration is from 2012-13 to 2016-17 and we can see that the sales of passenger vehicle
which is 26 lakh in 2012-13 decreases in 2013-14 but after that grew at 4%,7%,9% for the period of
2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 respectively.

For commercial vehicles the sales for the period 2012-13 was the highest among all the years at 793211
units. The overall sales of commercial vehicles as can be seen in the fig is fluctuating but the year 2015-
16 registered the highest growth rate of 12%.

Three wheelers the sales over the period is again fluctuating with highest growth 2014-15 from negative
11% in previous year to positive 11%

The Two Wheelers segment with 81 per cent market share is the leader of the Indian Automobile
market owing to a growing middle class and a young population. With the lowest sales for the year 2012-
13 which is 1.37 lakh and from that period the sales for two wheelers has grown continuously at 5% for
the period of five year. The average 2W sales for the given period is 1.57 lakh

Market share as can be seen in the table and the pie chart, two wheelers dominates the Indian
automobile industry with almost 80% of the vehicles sold being 2Ws.

The other segments in the automobile industry share a small share in which passenger vehicles share
14% and the remaining is shared between commercial vehicles and three wheelers.
