Title of dissertation: Assessing effect of higher wind loadings on cost/safety of a

building.

Aims and Objectives:

The aim of this research study is to assess the effect of higher wind loadings on the cost and
safety of a building, with the view of comparing at least one local structure of different storey
level and different wind speeds

Objectives:
 To appreciate the working principles of the effect of wind loadings on buildings.
 To gather data from local context in regards of the different return periods of wind
 To analyse and design the structures using appropriate method.
 To make a cost analysis of the different consequences of stronger wind loadings
 To analyse results to check influence on cost and safety of a building
 To make recommendations
Proposed Methodology (tentative):

1. Research on subject matter- Compiling of past studies and information and consultation
with experts.
2. Data gatherings from meteorological data collection and from reviews and publications.
3. Identification of distinct case studies from a local context.
4. Perform wind load calculations for each case study
5. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of results
6. Conclusion and recommendations.
