TEACHER DATE

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. illustrate the center-radius form of the equation of circle;
b. determine the center and the radius of a circle in a given equation;
c. graph the circle in the given equation; and
d. write the equation of a circle from standard form to general from and vice versa.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Equation of a Circle
Materials: ruler, compass, laptop (PowerPoint) and calculator
References: k-12 module

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparation.
1. Introduction
2. Prayer
3. Greetings
4. Checking of Attendance
5. Drill
The teacher will conduct a drill for the students about simplifying
square roots, square binomial to perfect square trinomial and factoring
by completing the square.
6. Review
The will recall the previous lesson about distance and midpoint
formula.
7. Setting of objectives
The teacher will introduce the objectives of the lesson to the class.
B. Presentation.
The teacher will present the lesson to the class about “Equation of a
Circle” through PowerPoint.
C. Lesson Proper/Discussion.
The teacher will disscuss the lesson about Equation of a circle and
illustrates the center-radius form of the equation of circle, will give some
exercises on how to determine the center and the radius of a circle and sketch a
graph in a given equation and how to write the equation of a circle from standard
form to general form and vice versa.
D. Generalization.
1. What is the standard form of the equation of a circle?
2. How do we write the equation of a circle if the center is at the origin?
3. How do you determine the center and radius of the circle?
E. Application.
I. Direction: Determine the center and radius of each. Then sketch the
graph.

1. ( x -2) 2 + (y + 1) 2 = 81

2. 16 + x 2 + y 2 - 8x - 6y = 0

3. -9 = - x 2 - y 2

II. Direction: Write the Standard Equation of each circle.

1. Center (0,0) ; radius ( 12 units)

2. Center (2,6) ; radius ( 9 units)
3. Center (-7,2) ; radius ( 5√5 units)

III. Direction: Write the General Equation of each circle.

1. Center (0,6) ; radius ( 144 units)

2. Center (10,-8) ; radius (4√2 units)

IV. EVALUATION:

I. Direction: Determine the center and the radius of each. Then sketch the graph.

1. ( x - 1) 2 + (y + 3) 2 = 4
2. ( x + 2) 2 + (y + 1) 2 = 16
3. y 2 + 4x – 20 – 2y = - x 2
4. 16 + x 2 + y 2 - 8x - 6y = 0
II. Direction: Write the standard equation of each circle.

1. Center (4, 2); radius (4 units)

2. Center (0, 3); radius (5 units)
3. Center (-5, 2); radius (2√2 units)

III. Direction: Answer the following problems.

1. Write the equation of a circle with the center at
(-2, 4) and a radius of 3cm.
2. Write the equation of a circle with a diameter whose
endpoints are (6, 2) and (0, -6).
V.ASSIGNMENT:
Direction: Write the equation of each circle.

1. Center: (13, −13) Radius: 4

2. Center: (−13, −16)
3. Point on Circle: (−10, −16)
4. Ends of a diameter: (18, −13) and (4, −3) 12) Center: (10, −14)
Tangent to x = 13
5. Center lies in the first quadrant Tangent to x = 8, y = 3, and
x = 14
6. Center: (0, 13) Area: 25₶.
