MODULE -1

PROJECTION OF LINES
Case 1 - Line which is parallel to VP and perpendicular to HP

1) Draw the projection of a line AB 50mm long , parallel to VP and perpendicular to HP.
The point A is 30mm above HP and 25mm in front of VP.
2) A line CD is situated in the 3rd quadrant. The point C is 30mm from both HP and VP, the
distance of D from HP is 100mm.What is the true length of the line if the line is
perpendicular to HP and parallel to VP.
3) Draw the projections of line AB, 50mm long perpendicular to HP and parallel to VP. The
point B is 20mm above HP, assume the line is in first quadrant.

Case 2 – Line which is parallel to HP and perpendicular to VP

1) Draw the projection of line AB 50mm long ,parallel to HP and perpendicular to VP. The
point A is 30mm above HP and 25mm in front of VP.
2) Draw the projection of line PQ 60mm long, parallel to HP and perpendicular to VP. The
point P is 25mm above HP and 30mm behind VP.

Case 3- Line parallel to both HP and VP

1) Draw the projection of line AB 60mm long, parallel to both HP and VP with the end A
30mm above HP and 20mm in front of VP.
2) Draw the projection of line AB 60mm long, parallel to both HP and VP with the end A
30mm above HP and 20mm behind VP.

Case 4 – Line inclined to HP and parallel to VP

1) A line PQ 60mm long, parallel to VP and inclined at 450 to HP. Draw the projections
of the line if the point P is 30mm above HP and 35mm in front of VP. Mark the trace
also.
2) The length of the top view parallel to VP and inclined at 450 with HP is 50mm. One
end of the line is 12mm above HP and 25mm in front of VP. Draw the projections of
the line AB and determine its true length. Draw the trace or mark the HT.
3) A Line AB 70mm long has its end 25mm from HP and 40mm from VP. The whole
line lies in the 3rd quadrant. Draw the projections of the line if the line is inclined at
400 to HP and parallel to VP. Locate the trace.

Case 5 – Line inclined to VP and parallel to HP

1) A line PQ 70mm long parallel to HP and inclined to VP . Draw the projections of the
line , if the point P is 20mm above HP and 25mm in front of VP. The inclination with
VP is 300,locate the trace.
2) A line AB 80mm long parallel to HP and inclined to VP. The end A is 40mm above
HP and 25mm in front of VP. The end B is 30mm behind VP. Draw the projections,
What is the inclination of the line AB with VP and mark the trace.
3) The front view of a 75mm long line measures 55mm, the line is parallel to HP. One
of its ends is in VP and 25mm below HP. Draw the projections of the line and
determine its inclination with VP. Mark the trace also.
