1. Outline
UG221H-LE(R)4 is a new model of POD UG221 series at low cost version. It has an
excellent cost/performance and almost same functionality as UG221 series. Monochrome
8-gradation display is supported. It has only analog touch switch. UG221H-LR4 has
built-in SRAM area of 32k bytes, which supports backup functions (data logging, recipe
data, etc.) that cannot be supported in the standard models of UG221 series. There are
some limits in other functions. For more information about the limitations, refer to
“3. Differences between UG221H-LE(R)4 and UG221H-xC4.”

The model name of UG221H-LE(R)4 series is as follows:

3. Differences between UG221H-L(E)R4 and UG221H-xC4

UG221H-LE(R)4 has the following features that are different from UG221 series.
1) Display color: monochrome 8-gradation only
2) Touch switch: analog switch type only
3) Modular jack: one port only
The functions which use modular jack port are as follows:
UG00P-MR, bar code reader, UG00P-U2, multi-link 2, temperature control/PLC 2Way,
UG-Link, ladder communication function, Modbus slave communication, serial printer
* When using Simulator, the above functions cannot be used because [Editor port] must be
selected in [Modular Port] setting for Simulator.
4) Printer port (parallel) not supported
5) Communication interface unit (UG03I-x) cannot be used for UG221H-LE(R)4.
6) Built-in SRAM area 32k bytes supported (only in UG221H-LR4)
UG221H-LR4 has built-in lithium secondary battery which enables SRAM and clock
functions. For more information, refer to ‘9. SRAM/Clock Function.’

* UG00P-TC (terminal converter) cannot be used for UG221H-LE(R)4. In UG30 Series
Manual < Hardware > using ‘UG00P-TC’ is recommended in Multi-Link 2 connection or
Multi-Link connection, however, refer to the wiring diagram which does not use
‘UG00P-TC’ when UG221H-LE(R)4 is used.

7. Procedures on Editing
1) Start UG00S-CW.
2) Click the [New] icon or [New] in the [File] menu.
3) The [Edit Model] dialog is displayed. Select [ UG221L ], and click [OK].

4) The [Select PLC Type] dialog is displayed. Select the PLC connected to
UG221H-LE(R)4, and click [OK].
5) The [Screen [0] Edit] window is displayed. Start editing UG221H-LE(R)4.

8. Memory Capacity of UG221H-LE(R)4

UG221H-LE(R)4 has the memory capacity of about 1M bytes. (This size differs
according to font type.) Memory extension by using memory cassette is not available.
For restriction on setting each function, refer to [Parts Types and Placement] of ‘Chapter 2
Screens’ in UG Series Manual < Operation > (FEH375), especially to UG221 series.

9. SRAM/Clock Function
This function is available only in UG221H-LR4. It has built-in SRAM area, 32k bytes. It
is in no need of battery replacement because it has rechargeable battery. However, if left
standing for hours without power supply, the data may be deleted because the backup time
period exceeds. Be sure to save the data for backup before the power is turned OFF.
For more information about backup memory specifications of SRAM/clock function, refer to
< UG221H-LE(R)4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS > ( INA-F6969 ) attached to
UG221H-LE(R)4. About the way to set the screen data for SRAM/clock function, notes
on using this function, refer to ‘Chapter 24 SRAM’ in UG Series Manual < Function >
( FEH376 ) more detail.
