In terminology of VW-group it's any electronic device, which has been carried out some logic function.

Sometimes it looks like nonsens - even simple relay can be called ECU.
Content update We are starting
The coding of Electronic Control Unit used for explain the ECU where it is and what "neighbours" big site update. We are sorry for
does it have. Very often on modern cars the coding is crossed with adaptation. bugs and missed content.
We are especially grateful for
Adaptation of the Electronic Control Unit serves to explain to the ECU with whom and how to talk (If financial support of our site
we have started to speak allegories) and serves as storehouse of various adjustable parameters. (
part of memory in the Control Unit which can be changed via internal software )
Measured Values Blocks ( MWB ) – various parameters being inbound or calculated. Considering to
value of MWB Electronic Control Unit, trying to "control"... Using of MWB allows you ( if you know the
basic parameters ) to find out "close to boundary" or temporarily arising ( intermittent, sporadic )
malfunctions and many other useful things at competent use.

The data readouts (coding and adaption channels) are outputted in a message and can be printed if
problems occur in reading-in the data to the new dash panel insert. To do so, choose Print from the
menu bar at the bottom and then Function test log. Select the output medium beforehand. In addition,
the communication during reading is check ed in order to detect any incorrect data readout. If problems
occur in reading out the coding or an adaption channel, they are indicated in this message with the
phrase Could not be read - refer to function description. If problems occur in reading in the coding or
an adaption channel, they are indicated in this message with the phrase Could not be stored - refer to
function description.
A special case in this regard is represented by adaption channels 29 and 47-48. adaption channel 29
relates to fuel gauge sender 2 and can only be read if the vehicle is coded for quattro in the dash panel
insert. Adaption channels 47(sooting) and 48 (thermal loading) are only present in conjunction with diesel
engines.
Adaption channel 3:
I Consumption correction
85% - 115% (in 5% increments)
Correction: 85% 90% 95% 100% 105% 110% 115%
Value in channel: 85 90 95 100 105 110 115
Adaption channel 9:
I km/mileage reading/10 e.g.: 5000km on dash, 500 in adaption channel
(in case of mileage coding in miles)
Note: Adaption of this channel by vehicle self-diagnosis must be carried out by way of the access
authorisation function "13861".
Import of the kilometre reading from the old dash panel insert into the new one is linked to the following
conditions:

The odometer in the new dash panel insert must show less than 100 km.
It is only possible to enter a kilometre reading greater than 100 km.
If the dash panel insert is coded for miles (Great Britain and USA), the input must be in miles.
After an incorrect input further attempts are possible, until a distance of 5 km has been exceeded one
time following the first change.
An incorrect input after 5 km may mean the unit is no longer usable.
MNImportant:
If the dash panel insert is replaced by vehicle self-diagnosis, the correct
sequence must be ensured when reading-in the ESI adaption channels to the
new dash panel insert.
If readout of the adaption channels via Guided Fault Finding from the old dash panel insert is

If readout of the adaption channels via Guided Fault Finding from the old dash panel insert is
no longer possible, necessitating manual adaption of the channels in the new dash panel
insert, individual subroutines for adaption of each channels are called up. In this, the ESI
channels are automatically adapted in the correct sequence.
