Compliance: The Trident system complies with international standards such as IEC61508:2010 edition, and
fulfils the requirement for applications such as Emergency Shut Down (ESD), Fire and Gas (F&G), Burner
Management Systems (BMS), Turbo Machinery Control (TMC), High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems
(HIPPS) and Oil Wells RTU Systems that need to be distributed in Remote Instrumented Buildings or located
remotely in the Production Fields.
Continuous Operation: Designed for continuous operation, the unique diagnostic approach in the Trident
system allows greater fault coverage and localization, achieving the highest system availability and reliability
possible. Trident provides you with the assurance of continuous operation as there are no time restrictions
when running under fault conditions as Trident has TÜV SIL3 approval on a 3-2-1-0 channel by channel basis.
All modules can be replaced on line without halting production. You no longer need to settle for dual
redundancy when what you rally need is the peace of mind of Triple Modular Redundancy.

TRICONEX TRIDENT DISTRIBUTED SAFETY INSTRUMENTED SYSTEM
SOLUTION FOR SAFETY AND PROTECTIVE APPLICATIONS
Unbeatable Performance: Each Trident system is capable of executing the application logic (in and out) as
fast as 50msec making it ideal for mission critical applications requiring a fast response to process upset
conditions.
Open Connectivity: All of our solutions are easily integrated into all major distributed controls systems
(DCS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Trident solutions
support the following industry open protocols: Modbus TCP/IP master and slave, RS485 Modbus master
and slave, OPC UA (Unified Architecture) and TSAA protocol for tight integration with I/A Series Mesh
Networks.
Secure: Trident supports a ‘defense in depth’ approach to ensure that the safety instrumented systems are
immune to the threats of cyber attack. The system is approved to Achilles Level 1 as standard and can be
further protected through the use of the Triconex Tofino firewall. The system can be configured to reject all
unauthorized ‘write’ commands from external systems. The TriStation programming environment supports
both standard and enhanced security in accordance with stringent NERC cyber security standards. The
latest communications module also supports X.509 security encryption and user authentication.
Harsh Environmental Conditions: The Trident system operates in extreme ambient temperature conditions,
from as low as –20°C to highs of +70°C. It is also protected against corrosive environments and is
conformal coated as standard to meet G3 Level per ISA S71.04.
Lowest Total Cost of Ownership: The industry-proven Triple Modular Redundant technology (TMR) delivers
the lowest overall total cost of ownership throughout the life of your assets compared to Dual/QMR safety
systems. You can expect to spend significantly less on operation and maintenance over the lifecycle of the
system (averaged at 20 years) than with other vendor’s solutions. This is due to the higher reliability and
availability of the Trident system. The solution has minimum user restrictions when it comes to maintenance
as compared to other things.
Future Proof: While Trident has the automation industries’ longest track record, we also have a
commitment to protect your investments and serve your business in the future. Our ‘Continuously Current’
philosophy means we provide a migration path for existing technology to ensure that it always stays
current and adheres to the latest standards.
