The Last Samurai

The details of this movie are amazing, the director captured everything
in the movie implicitly and I absolutely loved the different point of
views that where illustrated throughout the movie. one of my favorite
aspects of the movie was the costumes they wore, especially all the
different armor that the men worked in as it was seen as an owner to
where it.

The movie is about a troubled man and his past in the army. He is called
back to the army to train Japanese soldiers. Katsumoto's is the leader of
the samurai army and doesn't want the samurai to be extinct. Nathan
(Tom Cruise) is captured by them because of his unready army although
putting up a good fight with a few soldiers and killed Katsumotos
brother in-law. When he was brought to their camp after a few weeks
Nathen (Tom Cruise) starts to learn how to fight the way of the samurai
and learns of their acquired culture.
The most impressive feature of the movie is all the detail put in to the
costumes mainly the armor as you see different designs, colours and all
the different features they have. I also loved the houses they have as
you don’t see that kind of architecture anymore.
The one thing I didn’t like was when Nathan(Tom cruise) was getting his
armor put on by Koguki and they then shared a kiss. I didn’t like it
because as I found it very forced. I also though the ending to be very
bland as I expected there would be more in it, not just them staring at
echo as he came home to them. And it just cuts there I think there
should have been a few tears shed or a hug in the end shot to convey
their relief and compassion towards echo.

What I learnt about the movie was, how it doesn’t matter where you
came from you can be a part of something bigger and better as Nathen
(Tom cruise) is an American but finds his way with the samurais and
their life style of the Japanese people. He then goes on to fight with
them all for the last time as they are his family now and he would
rather die with them then leave them.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie but found that it was missing a few key
factors such as a plot twist at the end, although feeling disappointed by
the ending I would recommend this movie to someone looking for a
little distraction and an insight to Japanese culture and the life of a
samurai.
