MOUNTAIN EAST MEDICAL CENTER REPLACING BOB WILKINSON

Mountain East Medical Center has had tension between the head of the purchasing

department, Bob Wilkinson, and the hospital’s board of directors. The medical staff has

criticized Wilkinson’s purchasing practices, even though the board of directors had ordered him

to cut costs by 15 percent.

Wilkinson’s resignation to MEMC is effective immediately and he will be taking a job as

purchasing agent with City Memorial Hospital. The assistant head of the department Johnny

Toler, who has been with the hospital for 13 years, will be taking Wilkinson’s place.

Toler said, “This hospital means a great deal to me and my family and I will give my best

efforts in making our purchasing department the best. I learned from a fine man- Bob Wilkinson-

and I hope I can continue to build on the foundation he established.”

Wilkinson graduated from the state university’s school of hospital administration in 1972.

After graduation, he worked for a small rural community hospital as the purchasing chief. In

1975, he came to Mountain East Medical Center.

“Bob’s abilities will be greatly missed at this hospital, but I know that Johnny Toler is a

person we can all depend on to do whatever is necessary to keep this department going,”

Hospital administrator Harry Illscott said, “I have great faith in him and in this hospital.”
