PASADO SIMPLE.

I. Frases afirmativas
1. Algo qu sucedio una vez en el pasado. / Something happened once in the past.
e.g I met my wife in 1983.
2. Algo que sucedio una y otra vez en el pasado. / Something that happened again and again in the
past.
e.g When I was a boy I walked a mile to school every day.
3. Algo que fue verdad durante algun tiempo en el pasado. /something that was true for some
time in the past:
e.g.He enjoyed being a student.
4. A menudo usamos frases con “ago” .

e.g.I met my wife a long time agoII. FRASES NEGATIVAS.

We use didn’t (did not) to make negatives with the past tense:

They didn’t go to Spain this year.


We didn’t get home until very late last night.
I didn’t see you yesterday.

II. FRASES INTERROGATIVAS.


Se usa “did” para hacer frases interrogativas.

PI+Did+S+V+O. (5)
When did you meet your wife?
Where did you go for your holidays?
Did you live abroad?

Excepcion:
Who + V+O.
e.g.1 Who discovered penicillin?
e.g.2 Who wrote Don Quixote

pasado continuo.
1. for something which continued before and after another action:

The children were doing their homework when I got home.

2. for something that happened before and after a particular time


It was eight o’clock. I was writing a letter.

3. to show that something continued for some time.


My head was aching.
Everyone was shouting.

4. for something that was happening again and again:

I was practising every day, three times a day.

5. with verbs which show change or growth:

The children were growing up quickly.


Her English was improving.
My hair was going grey.
The town was changing quickly.
PASADO PERFECTO.

El pasado perfecto es formado por

S+had+verbo (PP)+O. (4)

e.g. I had finished the work.


She had gone .

El pasado perfecto continuo.


S+ had been+ v(ing)+ obj (4).

I had been finishing the work


She had been going

Usos del presente perfecto.

 Para algo que inicio en el pasado y continuo hasta un momento dado


en el pasado.

When George died he and Anne had been married for nearly fifty years.

Normalmente usamos el pasado perfecto continuo para esto.

She didn’t want to move. She had been living in Liverpool all her life.

 Para algo que habiamos hecho varias veces hasta un punto en el


pasado y continuo para hacerse despues de ese punto.

He was a wonderful guitarist. He had been playing ever since he was a


teenager.

 A menudo utilizamos una clausula con since para mostrar cuando algo
inicio en el pasado.

hey had been staying with us since the previous week.

 Cuando estabamos contando nuestra experiencia e incluimos hasta el


presente.

My eighteenth birthday was the worst day I had ever had.


 por algo que sucedió en el pasado, pero es importante en el momento
de la presentación de informes:

I couldn’t get into the house. I had lost my keys.

 Usamos el pasado perfecto para hablar del pasado en condiciones,


hipotesis, deseos.

I would have helped him if he had asked.

It was very dangerous. What if you had got lost?

I wish I hadn’t spent so much money last month.

USAMOS EL PRESENTE PERFECTO PARA MOSTAR ALGO QUE HA


CONTINUADO HASTA EL PRESENTE.

They’ve been married for nearly fifty years./ ellos han estado casados durante cerca de
50 años.

She has lived in Liverpool all her life.

o ES IMPORTANTE EN EL PRESENTE.

I’ve lost my keys. I can’t get into the house.

USAMOS EL PRESENTE PERFECTO CONTINUO PARA MOSTRAR QUE ALGO HA


CONTINUADO HASTA EL PRESENTE.

It’s been raining for hours.

We’ve been waiting here since six o’clock this morning.

USAMOS EL PASADO PERFECTO PARA MOSTRAR QUE ALGO HA CONTINUADO HASTA UN


TIEMPO EN EL PASADO. /
