1) Wireless Home Automation system(WHAS) Technology

2) Intel Galileo Board

Objective

Home Automation system using Intel Galileo board that integrates cloud networking, wireless
communication and provide to user with remote controlof various appliances within home and data
storing.

Methodology

Building a prototype of HAS using Intel Galileo Board and testing the feasibility and success of the
automation of the home

Findings

HAS model works in the following manner- It consist of different sensors like temperature, gas, and
motion. Initially the Intel Galileo connects to the internet through WiFi. When the connection is
established, it will start reading the parameters of sensors (temperature sensors or others) like p1,
p2, p3 etc. The threshold levels are set for the sensors. The sensor data are stored in the cloud which
can be analyzed anywhere any time. If the sensor parameters are greater than the threshold level
then the respective alarm will be raised and the required action is done for the controlling it. In the
proposed model the temperature, gas leakage, motion in the house is monitored. If the temperature
exceeds the threshold level then the cooler will turn on automatically and it will off when the
temperature comes to control. Similarly when there is a leakage of gas in the house alarm is raised
giving the alert sound. The user can also monitor the electric appliances through the internet via
web server.

Problem Area - Home automation systems face four main challenges; these are high cost of
ownership, inflexibility, poor manageability, and difficulty in achieving security.

2) Intel Galileo Board

Objective

To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this system, devices such as light switches, power
plug, temperature sensor and current sensor can be integrated with the home control system.

Methodology

The project presents a low cost and flexible home control and monitoring system using an
embedded microprocessor and microcontroller, with IP connectivity for accessing and controlling
devices and appliances remotely using Smart phone application.
