Complete the design of the MOSFET-based differential amplifier shown below by answering the
questions posed.

1. The dc power drawn from the bias supplies under quiescent conditions must not exceed 6
milliwatts. The quiescent dc values of vo1 = vo2 = -8 V. Specify the value of RD.

2. The single-ended differential mode gain Ad = 50. Specify the required W/L ratio of the
MOSFETs.

3. The CMRR of the amplifier is to be 60 db. Specify the required value of Rss.

4. Determine the allowable range of vicm. The voltage drop, Vcs, across the current source
must not drop below 2V. Assume Rss is infinite for this step.

5. Determine the allowable range of vid assuming a linearity of 99% or better (i.e. the nonlinear
term in the active region expression for the drain current is to be 0.99 or larger as discussed
in lecture).
