Echo Mime Drama Strategy

The Echo Mime is a drama strategy that assists students to engage with a story.

The teacher reads a short section of text and performs some mime actions to highlight the meaning of the
text. The students echo the teacher’s actions. As an extension activity, students can take turns to create a
mime for the other students to echo.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the Both arms make a big wide circle

The First Day


God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light. Hands opening/closing to represent
light beams

God said, “Let there be space between the waters.” Hands split apart

The Third Day


God said, “Let dry ground appear.” Hands crisscross over

The Fourth Day


God said, “Let there be light in the sky.” Hands twinkle as stars

The Fifth Day


God said, “Let the water be full of living creatures. Make hands like a fish swimming.
Let birds fly in the sky.” Make hand like a bird flying.

The Sixth Day


God said, “Let the land produce living creatures.”
