history and future of marine biology, an overview of the marine
biology field including the different areas of involvement and
their required education/training, salary and projected job
growth. I interviewed Richard Viso, an associate professor at
Coastal Carolina University and I plan to complete my mentor
hours with Stephanie Wicks, and Aquarist at The Discovery
Place in Charlotte, NC.

Goal of product / what problem or To create an easy to follow directional guide in regards to the
need solved or addressed care of different types of aquariums.

Estimated time to complete Two months to research, plan, design and create the kits and
directional brochures.

People who will assist (if applicable) My mentor, Stephanie Wicks, and Pine Lakes AP environmental
science teacher, Ms. Dorcas.

Estimated cost / investment $75-$100 for supplies for the three individual kits

pictures/videos of myself making and putting together the kits in
order to prove that they are original works.

Product Description:
What would an aquarium be if the only spectacles were dead fish floating on water that was poorly taken
care off? In order to have a more fulfilling aquarium experience, marine biologists have to work behind
the scenes in order to make sure the sea creatures are happy and healthy in their environments. Now tell
me, what would marine animals be without water? Marine animals need water to live, not just ordinary
water, but water that is treated for their specific needs. In order to get this message across, I plan to create
different water testing kits for three different aquarium types; Freshwater, Saltwater and Brackish water
aquariums. I will also create a directional brochure for each aquarium type that will demonstrate how to
properly test the aquarium water. For my presentation I will bring in images/videos of myself creating the
kits as well as the kits themselves and brochures that I have created, I will explain why each of them is
necessary and how to use them.
