CHAPTER
PERFORMANCE, HIGHLIGHT AND EXPERIENCES
It was September 4, 2017 when I started my On the Job Training (OJT) in

Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Before I was introduced to our

designated department, the Officer in Charge in Human Resource Section

oriented us about the company and about the do’s and don’ts in the company.
To start with my On the Job Training (OJT) I was assigned in the Fund

Management Section. I met my supervisor Madam Leanita Macarubbo, I was

excited and somewhat nervous that day because of the new environment and new

people surrounding me. I am adjusting myself that time with their attitudes and

personalities. Luckily, all employees out there are kind and generous. As I was in

the office, I asked myself a lot of questions like “What if I can’t finish my

internship on time?”, “Can I do my task correctly and on time?”, and a lot of

“What if” kind of thoughts. But as time passes by, being a trainee is fun and

interesting. I learned many things each day and I learned to have a positive

outlook in mind. Be patient and determined to finish my task accordingly.

Upon sitting in one of the office chair and leaning in one of the table, I felt

that I was really an office girl. The feeling of being there is somewhat

overwhelming, I really felt like a regular employee working there. My supervisor

guided me on the tasks that I did during my first 3 days as a trainee. I was able to
be familiar with my assigned tasks as time passes by that I stay there. I can

manage my work by myself once you teach me already about doing something.

So listening in the instructions given to you is very important. Actually, we are

four trainees in the department. The Fund Management Section was divided into

two; cashiering and accounting. I was assigned in cashiering. And I have a

companion, she is my classmate. I faced a lot of hospital checks during my

internship in Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

My daily tasks were to sort and check the completeness of hospital checks

before mailing. I also used to check the completeness of signatures in the hospital

checks before mailing. The first and last week of the month was the busiest week

in our department. Because it is the cut-off weeks of hospital checks for pick-up

and mailing. This is the time wherein I checked the completeness of hospital

checks to its corresponding Summary of Accounts

Payable voucher. Then, I enveloped it for mailing. The cut-off for auto-credit

payment notice of different hospitals was Friday. I used to envelop them for

mailing. I filed the transmittals of both the hospital checks and auto-credit
payment notice. Sometimes also, I stamped “PAID” marks to all processed

disbursement vouchers and its supporting documents. When my supervisor is not

around, I was the one who assists the clients who pick-up hospital checks and

auto-credit payment notice. I released and logged it in the designated log books. I

also performed other tasks assigned by my supervisor and other employees.

That’s my daily routine in my training, I’m facing a lot of hospital checks every

first and last week of the month. It was the busiest weeks and on the second week,

few checks only to be sorted and counted. Sometimes I felt dizzy on my assigned

tasks because of many hospital checks. It is an easy task but tiring and you need

to be patient and determined to finish it and do it correctly. Moreover, I learned a

lot from the agency and gained friends both employees and co-trainees. Every

week I am being challenged from my assigned tasks.

In my one month as a trainee, I already know how to deal and handle

pressure. I know how to communicate properly and still ask some questions if I

don’t know something. Time passes by; my one month training is finished. I was

thankful because I surpassed it and gain knowledge.

On my second month, I got absent during my first week; Thursday and

Friday. It is our Intramural days; I just went to school to watch ball games and to

cheer our teammates. It was enjoyable and relaxing. It is also the month of many

delayed classes due to typhoon and transportation strike. There were no classes

but I still manage to go in my training. Some employees ask me why I am around

because all the trainees did not go to have their training. I went to because for me

time is gold and I don’t want to have my training until December because it is our

finals, a lot of requirements to do.

Month of November, there is a week that LHIO-Ilagan, Isabela conducted

an audit in Philhealth. It was also a tough week for the employees because every

one of them was being checked.

It is supposed to be my last month in training but my supervisor asks me

to extend my internship in order for me to help her. I was happy to extend it. I was

motivated to perform my tasks excellently because of what I have accomplished

and my supervisor is kind, patient and accommodating person. I

really learned a lot. I learned to adjust myself to the people I am with and to

socialize with them in a good manner. I talked to them with respect to open a

good conversation and good relationship. I was also inspired by their hardships

and determination to finish their work accordingly. I admire them for still having

smile faces and a jolly one despite of rush hours and nerve wrecking days at work.

My On the Job Training (OJT) also developed my personality as a student

today and as a future professional someday. It helped me to believe in myself that

I can do it. That in everything we do, I must be determined and competitive in

life. I was happy because I finally finish my training. I will be missing them even

though they just become close to me for a short period of time. I was thankful to

them. They helped me to be the best I can be. They taught me things related to my

chosen course. They share their knowledge and skills not just to me but to my co-

trainees.

INSIGHTS GAINED

The training I had in the Fund Management Section is learning many

things each day. I was exposed in actual works, became familiar with the tasks

assigned to me and I learned to use equipments that are usually used in the office.

I also learned to be more sociable and to adjust myself in order for me to be

comfortable to where I am working at and to whom I am working with. In my 3

months stay there, I learned a lot of things related to my course. I can do all the

works assigned to me and I can even work under pressure. It also helped me to

boost my confidence and communicate to other people. I learned how to become

an independent, to manage my time, and to observe cleanliness and discipline

inside the office. I also learned to observe punctuality and communicate properly.

As I was working as a trainee at Fund Management Section, I learned to

become a patient, determined and hard-working person. It is important for me to

do it correctly. It is also important for me to make the hospital checks safe every

time I checked and counted them before mailing. I must also ensure that the

hospital checks I’m putting on envelop is correct.

After my training, I realized that On the Job Training (OJT) gives me an

opportunity to show my skills and knowledge that I have. I was also thankful to

experience the feeling of being a professional.
