BASKETBALL

Good Afternoon ladies and gentleman. I would like to thank you for coming to my
presentation. It is really a good honor to meet you here. First of all, let me introduce myself to
you. My name is Elang Ihza Lesmono. You can call me Elang. In this occasion,I would like to
describe my favourite sport. The sport is basketball.
Since High School, I have been playing basketball. Basketball is a limited contact sport
played on a rectangular court. While most often played as a team sport with five players on each
side, three-on-three, two-on-two, and one-on-one competitions are also common. The objective
is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and 10 feet (3.048 m) high that is
mounted to a backboard at each end of the court.
EQUIPMENTS
One of the great things about basketball is that you don't need a lot of equipment to play.
Just get a ball and find a goal and you can start a pick up game. However, there are some official
rules about what equipment you need when playing competitively.
The Ball
Standard Mens Basketball (Size 7) - This is the size used by the NCAA men, boys high school,
as well as the NBA. It has a circumference between 29.5 and 30 inches and weighs between 20
and 22 ounces.
The Basket
The basket is made up of the backboard, rim, and net. The rim is 18 inches in diameter. A
regulation backboard is 72 inches wide by 48 inches tall, although you will find backboards can
vary in size. The rim should be 10 feet from the ground. Typically a 10 foot rim is used from
ages 6th grade and older. For younger kids you can lower the goal so that they can take a proper
shot at the goal.
The Uniform
The basketball uniform generally consists of a tank top and shorts.
Basketball Courts
In Basketball, the basketball court is the playing surface, consisting of rectangular floor with tiles
at either end. In professional or organized basketball, especially when played indoors,it is usually
made out if wood, often maple.and highly polished. Outdoor surfaces are generally made from
standard paving materials such as concrete or asphalt. Basketball courts come in different sizes.
In the NBA,the court is 28.7 by 15.2 m. under FIBA rules, the court is minutely
smaller,measuring exactly 28 by 15 m. a high school court is slightly smaller,at 25.6 by 15.2 m.
Center circle
In here only two players permitted to enter this area to the tipoff are the contesting the jump
ball.
Three point line
The three point line is the line separates the two point area from the three point area;any
shot converted beyond this line counts as three points. The distance to the three point line
from the center of the basket is 6.35 m
Perimeter
The perimeter is defined as the areas outside the free throw lane inside the three point line.
Shots converted from this area are called perimeter shots.

BASKETBALL MOVES
Dribbling
Dribbling is bouncing ball continuously with one hand at atime without ever holding ball.
Dribbling is required in order for a player to take steps while possessing ball.
Passes
A pass is a method of moving the ball between players. Most passes are accompanied by a step
forward to increase power and are followed through with the hands to ensure accuracy. In the
basketball game there are 3 basic pass.
Chest Pass
This pass is performed best by stepping towards your target with one foot, then throwing the
ball out towards their chest with two hands while turning the hands over, ending with the
thumbs pointing down.
Bounce pass
This pass consists of one player passing the ball to a teammate by bouncing the ball off the
ball.
Over the head
It is used by snapping the ball over the head, like a soccer throw in. This pass especially
effective in helping intiate a fast break.
Shots
Shooting is the act of attempting to score points by throwing the ball through the basket,
methods varying with players and situations.
Typically, a player faces the basket with both feet facing the basket. A player will rest the
ball on the fingertips of the dominant hand (the shooting arm) slightly above the head, with the
other hand supporting the side of the ball. The ball is usually shot by jumping (though not
always) and extending the shooting arm.

POSITION ON BASKETBALL
1. Point guard (often called the "1") : usually the fastest player on the team, organizes the
team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the
right time.
2. Shooting guard (the "2") : creates a high volume of shots on offense, mainly long-ranged;
and guards the opponent's best perimeter player on defense.
3. Small forward (the "3") : often primarily responsible for scoring points via cuts to the
basket and dribble penetration; on defense seeks rebounds and steals, but sometimes
plays more actively.
4. Power forward (the "4"): plays offensively often with their back to the basket; on defense,
plays under the basket (in a zone defense) or against the opposing power forward (in
man-to-man defense).
5. Center (the "5"): uses height and size to score (on offense), to protect the basket closely
(on defense), or to rebound.

RULES
Teams/number of players
Two teams of maximum 12 players, with a maximum of five players of each team on the
court at any time.Teams may make as many substitutions as they like.
The objective
The objective of the game is to put the ball in the opposing team’s basket. The team with
the most points at the end of the game wins.
Duration
The game consists of four periods of 10 minutes.
Scoring
 A basket scored from near the basket (inside the three-point arc) is worth two points.
 A basket scored from far (beyond the three-point arc) is worth three points.
 A basket scored from the free-throw line is worth one point.
Moving the ball
 The ball may either be passed from one player to another, or dribbled by a player from
one point to another (bounced while walking or running).
 Before passing or shooting the ball, a player may take two steps (without dribbling).
 Once a player has stopped dribbling, he may not start to dribble again.

three consecutive seconds.

player is fouled but makes the attempted shot, the shot counts and an additional free-
throw will be awarded.
 Once a team has made four fouls in a period, each additional foul (on a player not
