Beach Cleaning Project Organised by the Environment Club of SMK Padang Kamunting F2

1 On last Saturday, 10th October 2009, the Environment Club of SMK Padang Kamunting held a beach
cleaning project at Mengabang Telipot Beach . It was a glorious project which received a good
response from all participants. C2

2 The objectives of this project were to beautify the beach as well as to attract the local and
foreign tourists to visit it. By this mean, we could contribute to our country by volunteering to clean
and beautify the beach. Above all, by joining this project we could implement the nation’s aspiration in
accordance with the government’s effort to expose Malaysia to the outside world through tourism sector.

3 For your information, this project was joined by 38 participants consisting of members of the
Environment Club and volunteers from Form Five students. There were two teachers-in-charge , Mr
Hakim and Miss Cindy , who were with us throughout the programme. C5

4 The Beach cleaning project started with the registration of participants at 8 a.m. They needed to
register as the teachers-in-charged wanted the attendance for food and documentation purposes.
Then, Mr Hakim gave us a short briefing on how to clean the beach and a few other important
matters.

5 After the briefing, all participants were eager to clean the beach. The beach cleaning activity
started at 9.30 am and ended late in the evening. There was a break on lunch time but many of the
participants were so elated to clean the beach that they did not care about the food .

6 The closing of the Beach Cleaning Project was the presentation of appreciation certificates to all of
the participants who had showed the best effort in order to fill the task of cleaning the beach. The
activity was continued with a barbeque at night and it was the most delicious seafood as it was fresh
caught by the participant themselves.

7 I believe that this project had been the most valuable and priceless experience to all participants. We
had been through many challenging experience along this project for instance the quick sand at some
parts of the beach. Besides, one of the biggest challenge was we had to collect all the state rubbish which
sometimes emitted a foul smell and we even found some nappies that were buried in the sand. It was
awful yet gave us a challenging experience.

8 We went home with a thousand and one memories and to my belief, all participants learnt a lot from
this project. We had learnt that it was very vital for us to stick as a team so to fulfill the task.
Furthermore, this project taught us to appreciate God’s gift by taking care the most wonderful treasure,
the beach.
