1. India’s first home-grown high purity gold reference standard the Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya (BND-4201) has been
launched at the India Government Mint (IGM) ___ Mumbai.
Note:
➢ The BND-4201 is the reference material for gold of ‘9999’ fineness (gold that is 99.99% pure) and will be
beneficial to the consumers and public at large to ensure purity of gold.
2. Samsung has tied-up with the bank to offer ‘Bill Payments’ on Samsung Pay____ Axis Bank.
Note:
➢ The new feature launched by the company will enable users to pay their utility bills seamlessly via Samsung Pay’s
secure and convenient platform.
➢ Consumers will be able to pay their utility bills seamlessly via Samsung Pay.
3. Indian FMCG company has been ranked as India's most trusted Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Brand by the Brand
Trust Report India Study 2017___ Patanjali Ayurved Ltd.
Note:
➢ In a study covering 11,000 brands across 16 cities by The Brand Trust Report India Study 2017, Patanjali has been
declared as the most attractive brand.
➢ The Patanjali Ayurved Limited was established in 2006 by Ramdev, along with Acharya Balkrishna, with the
objective of establishing science of Ayurveda in accordance and coordination with the latest technology and
ancient wisdom.
4. The union govt. has allowed companies to paste price stickers on unsold packaged products to reflect new MRP post GST
till ____March 2018.
Note:
➢ In the last GST Council meeting, the rates of GST have been reduced for about 200 items.
➢ To ensure GST cuts are passed on to consumers, the union govt. had directed state legal metrology officers to
check if companies are pasting the new MRP stickers.
5. The union govt. has decided not to levy the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on disbursement of Viability Gap Funding (VGF)
extended to select airlines under the _____Regional connectivity scheme (RCS).
Note:
➢ Disbursement of the VGF will be exempt from the GST for a period of one year since the commencement of RCS
operations to any of the 13 airports which have been connected since the scheme came into effect.
➢ The ministry is levying Rs. 5,000 per flight on key routes and proceeds from this route are estimated to be around
Rs. 200 crores annually towards the VGF.
6. The government has injected how many crs into various six public sector banks to improve the financial conditions of the
weaker banks___ Rs. 7,577 cr.
Note:
➢ Bank of India which was recently placed under prompt corrective action by the Reserve Bank of India received
capital of Rs 2,257 crore and IDBI received Rs. 2,729 crore from the govt.
➢ The other public-sector banks which received the capital support from the govt. includes - Central Bank of India
got Rs 323 crore, Dena Bank has got Rs 243 crore and UCO Bank got Rs 1,375 crore and Bank of Maharashtra has
received the capital support of ₹650 crore.

7. The United Nations (UN) has approved a cut of USD in its annual budget for 2018-2019___ 286 million US dollar.
Note:
➢ The General Assembly has approved the regular budget of 5.3 billion dollars for the next year.
➢ The additional reductions come mainly from across-the-board cuts in non-post resources for most Departments
and Offices, including the Special Political Missions.
8. The bank has signed a MoU with POORTI Agri Services Pvt. Ltd to enable the farmers to purchase agricultural inputs like
fertilizers, pesticides, seeds etc ___ Bank of Baroda.
Note:
➢ This is a Platform for Online Ordering & Rural Transformation of India known as “POORTI”.
➢ POORTI is a platform provides a multi-party mobile commerce platform in vernacular for easy ordering of
fertilizers, pesticides, seeds (beyond a given value) by farmers with loans given by various banks.
9. Who will launch the India’s first bitcoin trading app for transacting in virtual currencies___ Pluto Exchange.
Note:
➢ The Pluto Exchange mobile app offers a solution to the coordination problem between payment processors,
financial gateways and banks.
10. Telecom operator will shut operations in six circles, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra from 30th
January this year___ Aircel.
Note:
➢ Earlier, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directed Aircel to issue mobile number porting code
to its subscribers for moving out of its network and reject none of the request till 10th March,2018.
➢ The regulator asked Aircel to furnish subscriber wise information of all the pre-paid customers who could not
port- out and unspent balance in their account by March 20, 2018.

Obituaries

1. The renowned Bengali singer of West Bengal has passed away recently____Jatilshwar Mukhopadhyay.
Note:
➢ The state government had conferred him with the Sangeet Samman award in 2012.
2. Legendary South African musician passed away ___ Robbie Malinga.
Note:
➢ In 2016, he announced his retirement as a solo artist, after more than 20 years in the industry.
➢ The musician is known for his hit songs such as, ‘Sobabili’, ‘Mthanda’ and ‘Baby Please’.
3. One of the animators behind designing the iconic characters Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd passed away in Burbank,
California___ Bob Givens
Note:
➢ He known for his work as a storyboard artist on the TV series Linus! The Lion Hearted and as a graphic designer
on the show Baggy Pants and the Nitwits.
➢ Givens served in the US army during the Second World War, before returning to the animation industry.

New Appointments

1. The human rights activist of South African has been appointed as the next Secretary General of Amnesty International
___ Kumi Naidoo.
Note:
➢ In August 2018, he will take over from Indian activist Salil Shetty (since 2010).
➢ He was also the Founding Chair of the Global Call to Action against Poverty and Secretary General and CEO of
CIVICUS, the World Alliance for Citizen Participation.
2. The new Director General (DG) of National Cadet Corps (NCC) ___ Lt Gen B S Sahrawat.
Note:
➢ Sahrawat is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

➢ He was commissioned in December 1980 in 13th Battalion (Rezang La), the Kumaon Regiment. He has been
awarded the Sena Medal during the floods of Kosi River in Bihar in 2008.
3. The new Ambassador of India to the Republic of Peru___ M. Subbarayudu.
Note:
➢ Current, he is joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He is expected to take up his assignment
shortly.
4. The new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh____ Jairam Thakur.
Note:
➢ Jairam Thakur has been sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh after he was elected as the leader
of the BJP legislature party.
➢ In the recent 2017 election, the BJP ousted the Congress from power by winning 44 out of the 68 seats.
5. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India wicketkeeper as the General Manager (GM),
Cricket Operations___ Saba Karim.
Note:
➢ The General Manager's post had been left vacant after the resignation of MV Sridhar.
➢ As a Cricket Operations, he will give strategic direction to the cricket department, implementing the operational
plans, budgeting, determining and monitoring the compliance of match playing regulations, standards of venues &
administration of domestic program.
6. Who sworn in as Chief Minister of Gujarat ___ Vijay Rupani.
Note:
➢ Gujarat’s Governor O P Kohli administered the oaths of office to Mr. Vijay Rupani as Chief Minister of the state and
Nitin Patel as Deputy Chief Minister along with Cabinet colleagues in Gandhinagar.
➢ In the Gujarat (14th State Assembly) elections, BJP had won 99 seats in the 182-member house.
➢ The strength of the Opposition Congress and its allies in the new House is 80.
7. Senior IPS officer has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)____ Abhay.
Note:
➢ Currently he is working in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
➢ Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is the nodal drug law enforcement and intelligence agency of India responsible for
fighting drug trafficking and the abuse of illegal substances.
8. Who has been appointed as the new President of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) ___ Vinay
Sahasrabuddhe.
Note:
➢ Vinay Sahasrabuddhe is the BJP's national Vice President and a Rajya Sabha member from Maharashtra.
➢ Indian Council of Cultural Relations was founded in 1950 by India's first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam
Azad, who also served as its first President.
9. The new director of Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) ____ Amardeep Singh Bhatia.
Note:
➢ The SFIO is involved in major fraud probes and is the co-ordinating agency with the Income Tax Department and
the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
10. Ex-football superstar has been elected as the new president of Liberia____ George Weah
Note:
➢ Weah will succeed ‘Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’ as Liberia’s president next month, after an election fraught with
accusations of fraud and irregularities.
➢ It will be the country’s first democratic transition since 1944 and follows two devastating civil wars.

➢ She has been selected for the award in recognition of her contribution to propagate the spirit of secularism,
equanimity and universal brotherhood
➢ The award carrying a cash prize of Rs. one lakh, citation and plaque would be presented at a function on 14th
January, 2018.
4. The state govt. has presented one crore rupees and a house site of 600 square-feet to Indian women cricket team skipper
Mithali Raj in Hyderabad___ Telangana govt.

➢ Mithali Raj had led the Indian team to the Women's World Cup final earlier this year.
➢ Earlier, India lost to England in a nail-biting summit clash by nine runs.
5. Real Madrid player has bagged the Globe Soccer's Best Player for the second year in a row___ Cristiano Ronaldo.
Note:
➢ He received this honour for the fourth time in his career. Earlier, he had also won the award in 2011, 2014 and
2016.
➢ The award is organised by the EFAA (European Association of Football Agents) and ECA (European Clubs
Association).
Important News – India

1. The Union Government has launched the project at Ganga Gram Swachata Sammelan (GGSS-2017) ___ Ganga Gram.
Note:
➢ The Ganga Gram project is an integrated approach for the holistic development of villages situated on the banks of
the holy river with the active participation of villagers.
➢ The project envisages solid and liquid waste management, renovation of ponds and water resources, water
conservation projects, organic farming, horticulture, and promotion of medicinal plants.
2. The Minister of communications Manoj Sinha has launched to improve level of postal services for rural customers ___
‘DARPAN’ (The Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for A New India).
Note:
➢ DARPAN offers core banking services to the account holders.
➢ The project has an-outlay of 1400 crore rupees and intends to provide a low power technology solution to each
branch postmaster.
➢ This will enable each of approximately 1.29 lakhs branch post offices to improve service delivery.
3. The Authority has fixed the prices of essential medicines under Drugs (Prices Control) Order,2013___ National
Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
Note:
➢ In respect of medicines that are not under price control, manufacturers are allowed to increase the maximum
retail price by 10% annually.
➢ The calculation for essential drugs is based on the simple average of all medicines in a particular therapeutic
segment with sales of more than 1%.
4. India has signed an agreement with the country to allow automatic sharing of tax-related information from this month____
Switzerland.

➢ The agreements have been signed by Sushil Chandra (CBDT chairman) and Andreas Baum (Swiss ambassador to
India) at the North Block in New Delhi.
5. The country will establish a Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (CEIT) at Al Azhar University (Egypt's highest
religious authority) ___ India.

➢ CIET will provide high-tech education and skills to the country's youth.
➢ It was set up to monitor growing radicalism and extremism often leading to violence and terrorism.
6. India Coffee Trust in association with the Coffee Board has announced the 7th India International Coffee Festival(IICF) to

➢ It is an excellent platform to showcase ‘Coffees of India’ to the global coffee buyers.
➢ The festival will comprise of International Conference Exhibition for all things coffee, Skill-building workshops,

7. India's first design university 'World University of Design' opened its campus at ____Sonipat, Haryana.

➢ The University is promoted by Om Parkash Bansal Educational and Social Welfare Trust of Mandi Gobindgarh,

➢ WUD is India's first university dedicated to education in the creative domain.
8. Atal Innovation Mission selects how many schools for setting up of Atal Tinkering Labs across India__1500.
Note:
➢ NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has been selected additional 1500 Schools for establishment of Atal
Tinkering Labs (ATLs) to give a major boost to the vision of the mission to ‘Cultivate One Million children in India
as the Innovators of tomorrow.
➢ Atal Tinkering Labs are innovation play workspaces for students between Grade VI to Grade XII, to stimulate them
for innovations combining science & technology.
9. India to get its first runway on sea-bridge at ____Lakshadweep
Note:
➢ India is all set to get its first runway on a ‘sea bridge’, as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been given a nod
to extend Lakshadweep’s Agatti Airport.
➢ Earlier, the plan was extending the runway by linking two adjacent islands.
➢ The project is estimated to cost Rs. 1,500cr.

10. India and Afghanistan launch second air cargo route, linking Kabul with _____Mumbai
Note:
➢ Earlier in 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Afghanistan leader had decided on opening direct air
corridor.
➢ Afghanistan has so far exported 1,640 tons fresh and dried fruits, carpets and medical herbs in 56 flights to India.
11. The 78th session of the Indian History Congress has begun at the Jadavpur University campus in___ Kolkata.
Note:
➢ The objective of three-day long Indian History Congress is for promotion and encouragement of the scientific
study of Indian History, holding Congresses & publishing of the proceedings, bulletins, memoirs, journals and
other works.
➢ The Congress will have six sections this time Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India, Countries Other than
India, Archaeology and Contemporary India.
12. Defence Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman has inaugurated the Centre for Entrepreneurship Opportunities and
Learning - for budding entrepreneurs in___ Mangalore.
Note:
➢ The aim of this centre is to promote Startup India initiative in the country.
➢ This is part of the project Startup Coast under which the minister proposed to establish innovation centres,
incubation set-up, tinkering labs and co-working space for startups on the west coast in Karnataka.

1. The National Mathematics Day 2017 is celebrated in India___ 22nd December.


Note:
➢ The Day commemorate the birth anniversary of great mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and to
recognize his contribution to mathematics.
2. Kisan Diwas is observed every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of the fifth prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh
on ___23rd December.
Note:
➢ Singh was the PM of India from 28th of July 1979 until 14th January 1980.
➢ He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister during the reign of Morarji Desai.
3. The Good Governance Day is celebrated every year across the country on ___ 25th December.
Note:
➢ The day mark the birthday anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
➢ The day was established in 2014 to honour Mr. Vajpayee by fostering awareness among the people of
accountability in government.

States News

1. The city hosted the 32nd Indian Engineering Congress (IEC-2017) ____ Chennai.
Note:
➢ The 32nd Indian Engineering Congress was organized by the Institution of Engineers.
➢ The congress offered great opportunity to young engineers to benefit from the experience of experts & veterans
from industry, research institutions and institutions of higher academic excellence.
2. The Prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi has flagged of a rapid transit system DMRC____ Magenta line.
Note:
➢ The first section 12.64 Km stretch from Kalkaji Mandir (Delhi located) to Botanical Garden (Noida-located) will
reduce the travel time of its commuters from 52 minutes to 19 minutes.
➢ The remaining section of the line is scheduled to be functional by March 2018.
3. Mumbai Railway Service as the first ever Air-Conditioned local train has been flagged off from ____Borivali station.
Note:
➢ The AC local will operate only on the Churchgate-Borivili section and make six trips daily (12 services per day)
and from 1st January next year.
➢ The train will not operate on Saturdays and Sundays as it requires maintenance.
➢ Out of 12 services of AC Local train 8 will run fast and will only halt at major station like Mumbai Central, Dadar,
Bandra, Andheri, Borivali, Bhayander and Vasai Road in both direction.
4. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the Centenary celebrations of the Yoga Institute in ____ Mumbai.
Note:
➢ The institute was founded by Shree Yogendraji Mani Haribhai Desai, the disciple of Paramahans Madhavadasji in
1918.
➢ Yoga makes its practitioners perfect and helps them in contributing towards the society and the country.
5. The state govt. has launched a free household power connection scheme 'Prakash hai to vikas hai' for the poor in to mark
former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birth anniversary__ Uttar Pradesh govt.
Note:
➢ Under the scheme the government will cover 16 million households by the end of next year.
➢ Initially the two village Lohban and Gausana of Mathura district have been covered for 100% electrification.
6. The state govt. has set up a 17-member development authority headed by Rajya Sabha member Sambhaji Shahu
Chhatrapati for the Raigad fort ___ Maharashtra government.
Note:
➢ In June 2016, the state govt. had sanctioned 500-crore rupees development plan for the 17th century fort which is
situated in Raigad district.
➢ The authority will finalize a development plan for the Raigad fort and surrounding areas, including the memorial
of Shivaji's mother, Jijabai.
7. The Karnataka government has unveiled a brand logo ‘Be U’ for the city ___ Bengaluru.

➢ The only city in the country to boast of a logo of its own.


➢ The crowd-source-designed logo comes with an option of colours (green, red and yellow) depending on the
occasion.
➢ The objective of the logo to make every person coming to the city to spend on memorabilia.
8. The state govt. is setting up Automatic service ATMs ‘E-Mitra Plus’ at nearly 9 thousand 9 hundred Atal Seva Kendras and
2500 urban locations situated across the state ___ Rajasthan.
Note:
➢ Rajasthan has a network of over 48 thousand e-mitra centers running successfully across the state for a quarter of
India’s total common service centers.
➢ E-plus is a more advance system with completely human-less interface, which has linked with AADHAR and has
provision for payment by cash and card.
➢ The e-Mitra network enables over 60 lakh transactions every month with turnover of about 700 crore rupees.
9. The Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani has inaugurated the five-day National Children Science Congress (25th) in
_____Ahmedabad.
Note:
➢ The theme of the Congress is 'Science and Innovation for Sustainable Development' with the special focus on
persons with disabilities.
➢ This year around 50 children and teachers from Asian nations has participated in the event.
10. The festival has been celebrated with religious fervour Vaishnavite temples across Tamil Nadu and other parts of the
country___Vaikunta Ekadasi.
Note:
➢ Thousands of people visited the temples early in the morning and witnessed the opening of the “Sorkka Vaasal,”
the inner sanctum sanctorum, with piety.
11. The state’s CM has launched a mobile app to connect about 16,000 members of School Management Committees
(SMCs)___ Arvind Kejriwal.
Note:
➢ The app is aimed at helping the schools, parents and students in better coordination and result-oriented
performance.
➢ The SMCs' decisions should be made binding upon the schools and they should be provided with some funds to
carry out essential and need based works in the schools.

1. The social-media network is changing how it identifies "fake news" stories on its platform to a more effective system
___Facebook.

➢ It will help speed up the fact-checking system, which sometimes worked too slowly.
➢ In its tests, fewer hoax articles were shared when they had fact-checkers' articles spooled up next to them than
when they were labelled with "disputed" flags.
2. The country has launched the world’s largest amphibious aircraft “AG600”____ China.
Note:
➢ The 121-feet long AG600 aircraft plane, codenamed “Kunlong”, has a 38.8-meter wingspan and 4 turboprop
engines.
➢ It’s the latest step in China’s military modernization program.
3. An American electronic commerce and cloud computing company has bought an Andover, Massachusetts-based company
'Blink' that makes Internet-connected doorbells and security cameras ____Amazon.
Note:
➢ It will help Amazon compete in the fast-growing home security camera market.
➢ The move could help Amazon compete in the fast-growing home security camera market and against similar
devices made by Nest, a subsidiary of Google parent company Alphabet.
4. Guatemala’s President Jimmy Morales has announced that it would be moving its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to
____Jerusalem.
Note:
➢ Guatemala was one of the 9 nations that had voted against the United Nations resolution that rejected US
President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
5. The city to host the annual meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) 2018_____ Davos.

1. India captain has been named in the ICC Women's ODI Cricket Team of the Year__ Mithali Raj.
Note:
➢ Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht was the lone cricketer to find a place in the both the ODI and T20 Teams of the year.
➢ Harmanpreet Kaur has found out a place in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year.
➢ Heather Knight (England) named as captain of the 50-over side and Stafanie Taylor (West Indies) appointed
skipper of the 20-over side.
2. Who will host the Commonwealth Games in 2022 ___ Birmingham.
Note:
➢ Earlier, the 2022 Commonwealth Games were originally given to Durban (South African city) in 2015, but the city
was stripped of the event because of financial difficulties.
➢ The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of
Nations.
3. The country has finished as runners-up in the SAFF Under-15 Women's Championships___ India.
Note:
➢ This is the first South Asian title for Bangladesh in women's football.
➢ India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan participated in this South Asian Football Federation tournament.
4. Olympic bronze medallist Boxer has retained WBO Oriental & Asia Pacific Super Middleweight titles___ Boxier Vijender
Singh.
Note:
➢ He defended his WBO Oriental and Asia Pacific Super Middleweight titles with a unanimous verdict over Ghana’s
Ernest Amuzu at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
➢ With this victory, Vijender has now won 10 pro bouts on the trot and retains twin titles.
5. Haryana shooter has won the women’s 25m pistol gold with a new record at the 61st national shooting championship
competitions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala__ ‘Anisha Sayyad’.
Note:
➢ She shot a new finals national record score of 33 in the eight-woman final.
➢ Shital Shivaji Thorat (silver medal) shot 30, claim a new finals national record while Rahi Sarnobat (bronze
medals) finished with 28.
6. The Association of Indian Football Coaches (AIFC) has been launched with the recognition of the All India Football
