Tal Abdu Haku, Kuss Lore | Proposes Residential Tower, Parcei A st Kampuny Eco City. The side formwork shall be protected from heat loss using 50mm polystyrene slotted between the angle iron. This shall form a proper insulation to prevent heat loss as the steel form is a good heat conductor. The concrete shall be insulated and the insulation should remain in place until the center of the concrete pour has cooled to a temperature level, which is low enough fo avoid the limiting differential being exceeded even if the surface has cooled to ambient. This period will vary with the size of the pour. Proper insulation by means a layer of plastic and polystyrene sheets on the top surface is satisfactory to prevent dissipation of heat. Once the difference temperature within the entire slab and the ambiance is less than 20.0°C, the covers and the side formwork system can be removed. 6.3 insulation Period Concrete Society Digest No. 2 estimated the minimum period for insulation to avoid excessive temperature differentials are as follows: Minimum Pour Dimension Minimum Period of Insulation 0.5 metre 3 de) 7.0 metre 5 de) 7.5 metre Téa) 2.0 metre da) ! 2.5 metre = 17 day 45 metre 21 days 16" Foor, Block B, HP Towers, 12 Jalen Gelenggan, Damansare Heights, 0460 Kuala Lumpur ioman02 Rev. 6 12 [ PROIEGT” | Proposed Eco Ci 7. CRACKING CONTROL 7.4 Plastic Settlement Cracking In very thick pours, plastic settlement cracking is often abserved following the line of the top mat reinforcement, This is not the same es plastic shrinkage cracking caused by premature drying from the exposed concrete surface. Effective immediate curing can avoid plastic shrinkage cracking The practical ways to avoid plastic settlement cracking are: 2. Use finer sand fo achieve minimum voids in the total aggregate. b. Use superplasticizer to control water content at low level. Action shall be taken if plastic settlement cracks appear. Plastic settlement cracks that are observed can be immediately re-trowelled whilst the concrete is still in plastic stage. Further settlement is unlikely to occur. 7.2 Cold J Maintaining a constant rate of pour can prevent cold joints and provision should be made for breakdown of concrete transporting plant (pumps or etc.) or a contingency to pour concrete by alternative means to avoid delays. Conerete is designed to have estimated initial setting time about 16 2 hours to ensure sufficient time for the pouring and to avoid cold joint between each layer. Set retarding admixture 2s part of the mix design is used in the mix to assist in the transportation end slower setting rate of the concrete, together with the iow heat cementitious materials replacement. 7.3 Restraint The restraint to massive pours such as these is generally small due to the relative stifiness of the pour compared to its immediate surroundings. Most of the restraint occurs internally due to temperature and strain differentials within the pour. These are caused by the surface of the pour cooling rapidly whilst the center remains hot. In this situation surface cracking can occur. Conversely, during coo! down, internal cracking may occur as the core cools. The extent to which intemal restraint develops is determined by the temperature distribution. For a parabolic temperature distribution in mass pours, it has been found that about 35% of the potential thermal movement is restrained.
