Unit 2 Science Review:

• It takes Earth 24 hours to complete one rotation.

• Earth’s rotation causes different sides of the planets to have different times. For
example, in Florida it might be daytime but in China it is nighttime.
• Earth rotates on an axis that is tilted at 23.5o .
• Rotation determines the length’s of a planets day.
• You can see the moon from Earth because the light from the sun is reflected by the
moon’s surface.
• A constellation is a group of stars that form a pattern in the sky.
• An August day is usually hotter then a January day because Earth’s North Pole is tilted
towards the sun in the summer and away from the sun in the winter.
• The same side of the moon always faces Earth because the moon’s revolution and
rotation are about the same length.
• The solar calendar is based on the yearly patterns of the sun.
• The lunar calendar is based on the yearly patterns of the moon.
• The Earth is much larger then it’s moon.
• A telescope is used to see objects that are far away.
• Kennedy Space Center in Florida is an important place because space shuttles launch
there.
• Communication satellites makes cell phones a possible technology on Earth.
• Due to Earth’s revolution, certain constellations are not visible everywhere on Earth all
year long.
