In a land of plenty and fairly good economic times there are still many
who are hungry and homeless. Some through no fault of their
own and others for many different reasons. No matter
why— no one should have to go hungry in a city like ours.
Everyday many people come to the Anchorage
Gospel Rescue Mission for a meal to perhaps
temporarily satisfy their hunger. Every effort
is made to brighten their lives and give them the
help and encouragement they need to overcome
the problems that have led to their poverty and
homelessness. This whole process usually starts
with a hot, nutritious meal.

NO ONE IN OUR CITY SHOULD GO HUNGRY!

The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission serves 100’s of meals everyday
mostly to impoverished men, women and families that include Mom, Dad
and kids. We have been having more whole families in recent months than
ever before. We have not established a reason why. However, it does not
matter the reason—if they are hungry, we will feed them.
The down side of our efforts, some will say, is, “that we are enabling them
to stay in their present situation.” But who are we to judge. If a person comes
to us and they are hungry we are going to do our best to feed them.
The up side is this, “to welcome needy people to our dining room
and hear the expressions of gratitude that they say to each other
and to us when they leave”, that makes it worth all of the
effort that was put forth to prepare the meal that they
had just enjoyed. And who knows, later we
may have the opportunity to witness to
some of them and tell them about
Jesus and His Power to Save.

“NewLife” Program Notes
“Reckon yourself dead to sin.”
Romans chapter six is a favorite passage
of mine. I recall so clearly the joy of
coming to understand and trust this
wonderful section of Scripture.
The truth of Romans 6 is critical to our
ongoing battle with sin. In it we come to
see that the death, burial and resurrection
of Jesus Christ permanently and
profoundly changed our relationship to
sin. In Galatians 2:20, Paul says, “I have
been crucified with Christ…” In Romans
6 we have explained that we, who believe,
were baptized into death of Jesus Christ.
That means we died when Christ died, and
therefore we died to sin as Christ died to
sin.
Having died in Christ to sin means sin no
longer has any power over us! This truth
is huge for the average Christian. Now
just try to imagine the impact of this truth
on the man who has been losing the battle
with alcohol or other drugs his whole life.
This is real hope!
For the addicted man, sin’s ranting (the
‘pull’ in the temptation) is an
overwhelming force. However, for the
believer, this ranting is only a loud but
hollow bluff.
Three of our men were baptized recently,
symbolizing and affirming their belief in
what Romans 6 teaches us. Now it’s their
time to prove that what the Lord says is
true, that they are dead to sin. They must
live it out. They must “reckon
(themselves) dead to sin.”

I Believe in Missions!
The most important activity that any
individual or church can participate in
is missions. We have a command from
our Lord, “to go and make disciples.”
This is not optional. Jesus said, “go
ye.” If we are to be obedient, we must
win the lost through the efforts of
missions and the missionaries.
Supporting missions is the best way I
know for you to keep this command
from our Lord. Whether it is local or
foreign, missions should be a part of
your life.
The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission
considers its ministry an extension of
the local church. We want you to feel
that you are taking part in missions
when you support this Mission in any
way. There is no activity that takes
place on any mission field that does
not happen right here. The Rescue
Mission is one of the greatest
opportunities that you have to serve the
Lord as a missionary. You can pray,
