Sura Lahab (The Meccan Infidel Chief)

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The Sura discusses Abu Lahab (Father of Flame), the nick-name of an

uncle of the holy Prophet (SA). He and his wife both were most vicious
enemies of Islam. Abu Lahab used to gesticulate with both hands and say that
he did not see whatever Muhammad (SA) promised. He also used to boast for
being wealthy and having number of sons. His wife used to say that she would
sell her costly necklace and spend that money against the holy Prophet (SA).

In this Sura Abu Lahab and his wife are cursed and prophesied his
woeful fate at the end. Allah said: “may his hands be ineffective, and he too
may become ineffective. His wealth, sons and his influence shall not be of any
gain to him and soon he shall be burnt in blazing fire of Hell. His wife shall
also share the same fate and would wear a collar of fire around her neck.
