DETENTION POND
TIME AREA METHOD
STEP 1; MSMA EDITION

1. Open Storm+ application.
2. Select SETUP icon

3. Option table will pop up
i. Select MSMA Edition for MSMA 2011 (MSMA 2)
ii. Select Ok button to proceed
i) SELECT MSMA EDITION
ii) SELECT OK BUTTON

STEP 2; Select Method
1. Select Pond Icon .

2. Select Time Area method
3. Design tab will also appear at your right hand side
STEP 3; Add Case
1. Select Insert button to add new Case

2. Select yes to use standard Case.
3. Data for Case will pop up.

4. User can change the duration and time step by own project.
STEP 4; MSMA EDITION

1. Select IDF MSMA2 tab
2. Select State and Station Name based on user project.

1. Select TP tab
2. Select Region based on State (MSMA II
STEP 6; ISOCHRONES
1. Select Time Area Method (TAM) tab .
2. Insert the number isochrones based on user project. For example, 6 isochrones.
STEP 7; DISCHARGE
1. Select for POND tab

i. Outflow Structure
a. Orifice
 Select Insert icon to add on orifice.
 Select Orifice
 Invert level is elevation of orifice; 0=dry pond, >0=wet pond.

b. Weirs
 Select same Insert Icon to add weirs.
 User can select any type of weirs to add on.
 Insert elevation of weirs. For example, indicate as 0.9m
STEP 8; POND VOLUME

1. Select Storage outflow Function tab
2.
User can change this data based own project.
 Import CAD layout by select

 Insert area of pond in hectare
 By draw area of pond
 Select pond icon

 Manually indicate area of pond

STEP 9; Generate First Result for Temporal pattern

STEP 10; INDICATE TAM DATA

1. Select TAM tab
2. Based on MSMA II, Table 2.6, indicate the losses as 1.5 and other change to 0 for pre and post.
3. Indicate area of isochrones for post and pre.
STEP 11; RUN Second Time
1. Select run button
STEP 12; Save project Files

1. Select File icon
2. Select Save AS tab

3. Located the location to save

4. Create one new folder and name it.
5. Open the folder and save the project file.
STEP 13; GENERATE REPORT

1. Select Report tab, .
2. Select Setup icon to key in project information.
3. Select Report Icon to generated report

4. Report will be auto located at folder user created
5. Name it as Report.
6. Select Yes to view Report in Excel format.

OSD (ON SITE DETENTION)

1. On side Detention a. Select OSD icon
b. Select above ground or below ground.
c. For example, select for Below Ground.
2. Case a. Table for case will automatically appear.

i. User can change Duration (mins) based
on your project.
ii. User can change Time Step (dt) based
on your project.
3. IDF MSMA2 a. Select State

b. Select Station Name
4. OSD

a. Times And Design Storms
 Indicate value for tc,tcsand ARI
b. Areas
 Select Insert icon to add Impervious and
Pervious area
c. Site Condition for C values
 Select C value for pre and post
 If user have own C value,
 tick  at User C Values
 Manually key in C value at Calc tab
d. Water Level
 Insert level of Ys (m) and Ye (m).
 User can select icon to pop up the

diagram.

a. Select Outlets tab
b. Insert data for Primary and Secondary based
user project.

b. Required volume will appear
c. Select tank sizing
 Rectangular or
 Cicular
d. If select Rectangular sizing, user need to
indicate value for width, length and depth
based on user project.
 Provided volume must be higher than
required volume.
4. Save project files

a. Select file icon
b. Select Save as or Save.
c. Locate the location to save the project.
d. Create one folder for one project files.
e. Save as usual
5. Generate Report a. Select Report tab.

b. Select Setup icon to insert all the information
of project.
c. Select Report icon to generate report

RATIONAL METHOD (RM)

4. RM (Ratinal method) c. Indicate tc (mins) based on user project.

d. Indicate area (ha) of project.
e. Select land used for pre and post.
5. Pond

a. Select Insert icon.

b. Select Orifices
c. Insert the date for discharge properties
 Invert Level;
0=dry pond , =wet pond

c. Select same Insert Icon
d. Select types of weirs
e. Insert the data for discharge properties

a. Insert all the based own user project.
b. Input area (ha) project by:
i. Modeling (draw)
 Select CAD(USD Import) icon to
import CAD project.
 Select icon to start draw.

 By mouse click at layout, start to
draw area of pond.
 Right click mouse to end add pond.
ii. manual input area

 Direct indicate value of pond area at
column Area (ha).
6. Run a. Select run to generate result.
7. Save project files

f. Select file icon
g. Select Save as or Save.
h. Locate the location to save the project.
i. Create one folder for one project files.
j. Save as usual
8. Generate Report d. Select Report tab.

e. Select Setup icon to insert all the information
of project.
f. Select Report icon to generate report
