The transport of the teachers in comparison with the children is very different, because
some teachers live far away from school, so they need to go by car or train, but some
teachers go on the bicycle because they live close to school. I think it's not that safe to
drive a long distance because teachers need to go on the motorways which can be very
dangerous.

3. Public transport in your area.

Price
To my opinion public transport in the Netherlands is very expensive, for example
busses, trains, taxi’s etc. A short trip for 10 minutes costs about 10-12 euros. Compared
to cities as London or Paris this is very cheap, but I think it’s very expensive for the
Netherlands.
Comfortable?
The public transport in the Netherlands is very comfortable and clean. In busses and
trains it is always very clean. I think that for the price you need to pay for this, this is
quite logical. The chairs are (almost) always clean and (almost) always there are enough
seats. In the big cities public transport is sometimes a bit overcrowded but in the rural
areas it is not.
Efficient?
I think the public transport is very efficient because many people use it. It is very good
that many people use busses and trains because in this way we reduce pollution. In the
big cities a train or bus almost stops every 10 minutes at a bus/train station. In the rural
areas like Zeeland, Groningen, Flevoland etc. the trains and busses stop less often,
because not many people go by bus, so it gets too expensive.

Online shopping
I asked my parents’ opinion about online shopping. My mother buys most of her clothes
on the internet and my sister does this as well. They do this for mainly 2 reasons. The
first reason is that it saves a lot of time and the second one is that it reduces car use and
that it is better for reducing pollution.

My mother works at home a lot, she is the director of a primary school. She works 3 days
at school and the other two days she is actually free, but she works on her laptop at
home often. My dad always works at home, so he never takes the car to work.

Carpooling
When my parents go to a meeting for their work, they often carpool with people from
the same direction. This reduces car use and is better for the environment.

Valerija’s parents:

What does my mother think about reducing the use of private cars?
Mother: It’s better for the environment to go by bicycle but then the public transport
needs to be better. Public transport is expensive in the Netherlands and is not practical.

What does my mother think about online shopping?
Mother: It's very easy because you don't have to go out of the house. The problem is that
you can't know if you fit the clothes.

What does my mother think about working home via internet?
Mother: It's not very handy because you can't have direct contact with your colleagues.
The good thing is that you can't get distracted from other people.

Myra’s parents:

Ingrid (mother) – The government should make public transport cheaper and
companies should install carpooling facilities or a program that stimulates employees to
use a bike or an E-bike. I think people should stop believing that you need a private car,
because you can just share cars. Also people shouldn’t think that a car is something to
improve your status with.

Koos (father) – My father’s opinion on realistic ways I support the idea, but it's
unachievable.

Quinn’s parents:

My father: My father’s opinion on a realistic way to reduce the use of private cars is that
the accessibility to public transport is better and that there is more public transport
with better and faster connections. He also says that it should be cheaper so that more
people could afford it and or use it more because it is now cheaper than to go with car.

my mother: my mother’s opinion on a realistic way to reduce the use of private cars is
to put facilities like school, supermarket etc. in each neighbourhood of a city. My mother
also says that there should be more public transport in the neighbourhood, so more
people would use it.
