Between January 12" and January 14, 2018, at the direction of and in collaboration with the New
Haven Office of the State’s Attorney, the Guilford Police Department and the Veterans 4 Child
Rescue Foundation conducted Operation “Not In My Town” a regional/multi-jurisdictional
joint/parallel sting operation focused on identifying and arresting potential sex offenders that had
arranged sexual liaisons with children (fictional characters) they made contact with using
various social media applications over the internet.
The operation could not have been successful without assistance, participation and resources
from a number of regional law enforcement agencies to include; Branford Police Department,
Clinton Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Madison Police Department, Milford
Police Department, North Haven Police Department, West Haven Police Department, the
Shoreline Technical Crimes Investigative Group, and the Connecticut Human Trafficking Task
Force.
The operation was also filmed as part of a documentary by the Veterans 4 Child Rescue
Foundation and was designed not only to arrest sexual predators that are lurking literally a text
message or mouse click away, but to also raise awareness to the realities of child sexual
exploitation and the importance of internet safety in keeping our children safe while on-line.
In follow up to this operation and in keeping with the intent of this initiative to increase
awareness and educate citizens about the dangers our children face on the internet, the Guilford
Police Department will be hosting and participating in educational seminars on the subject for
both parents and their children. Dates and times of these events will be announced shortly. In
addition, parents and educators are encouraged to contact the Guilford Police Department Crime
Prevention Unit at 203-453-8061 for information on Internet safety.
‘There are also a number of on-line resources available to help inform parents, educators, children
and teens on internet safety to include the NetzSmart Workshop program hosted by the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children at http://www.netsmartz.org/Parents
‘While Law Enforcement will continue to investigate crimes perpetrated against our most
vulnerable; parents and families have a responsibility to educate themselves and to have open
and frank discussions with their children about the dangers they face. These dangers are real.
Let’s work together to ensure that no more children fall victim to these dangerous predators,Guilford Police Department
