Peulich: Andrews’ VMC Divisive Ad Uses South-Sudanese Kids

Inga Peulich MLC, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs has slammed the Andrews Government and its lead agency
the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) for play politics with multiculturalism following a politically motivated
advertisement released today calling for a safe start to school for South-Sudanese students.

The VMC Chair states that young South Sudanese students may be a target for discrimination following recent media
coverage and commentary.

Ms Peulich said that the Coalition is pro multiculturalism and pro strong community safety, and it is unfortunate that
Labor and the VMC have potentially been both political and divisive.

The advertisement can be viewed online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvkozkPpbc4

Quotes attributed to Inga Peulich MLC, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs:
“The message that children should not be bullied at the start of the school year is an important message that should
have been delivered via an education- focused 'back to school ad' with an anti-bullying message.”

“All Australians no matter who they are, are expected to be good citizens and the Government should lead by positive
example and not by making divisive, political comments on multicultural issues.”

“The bipartisan support for multiculturalism must be protected especially by the lead agency, the VMC - not sacrificed
for a political purpose or agenda.”
