Reporting Absences – Attendance Line 970 613-6577

It is important to report all students’ absences to our attendance line when possible.
When students are not called in, the system will be calling home to verify student ab-
sences. Our Health Office tracks student absences and we will follow up on excessive
absences with our Home Liaison Gloria Major. Tardies are also tracked and when they
exceed 5 or 6 parents are notified by letter. Mrs. Major will also follow up with families
if chronic tardiness is a problem. If you should have any questions about absences or
tardies please contact me. Mrs. Goppert 970 613-6500

What’s New?
Fastt Math is a new math intervention program being used at Monroe this year. The program is produced by a company you
are familiar with, Scholastic. This program is computer-based and will be used to build math fact fluency (speed they can
answer a problem correctly) for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Fastt Math builds fluency (speed) with
math facts through a series of continuously adaptive lessons that build students efficiency for solving math fact problems.
The engaging and motivating lessons are customized for each student. This program will help Monroe students gain the
foundation for successes in higher order problem-solving.

Mathematics Navigator is a new math intervention program being incorporated at Monroe to help us target and fill critical
gaps and misconceptions in mathematics to help students in second grade and above grasp key foundational concepts that
they need to be successful in math. The units are organized into 20-day modules that work because they identify and correct
the math misconceptions that research shows hold students back from accessing grade level math curriculum. Math Naviga
tor builds problem-solving skills and the conceptual understanding needed for future success in algebra. The program has
built in check points to allow for individualized instruction and research demonstrates sustained success with the program.
Monroe will begin using this intervention during school hours as well as for an after-school program.

Trck-or-Treating Safety:

While Halloween is meant to be

scary, trick-or-treating should be
fun, safe, and free from danger on
Halloween night. So, making sure
your kids follow the basic safety
rules on Halloween just as they
should be following on other days is
very important. Remind them to
stay away from strangers, no mat-
ter how cool their Halloween cos-
tumes are, or what kind of candy
they’re offering! They should never
get into a strange car or go into a
stranger’s house while trick-or-
treating. They should also be espe-
cially wary of traffic on Halloween
night because there are usually a
lot of cars out carrying groups of
trick-or-treaters, so looking both
ways before crossing and just gen-
erally be aware of their surround-
ings is key. Wearing reflective ma-
terials on the front, back, and sides
of their Halloween costume, as well
as carry a flashlight, will make it
easier for drivers to see them. Of
course, you don’t want to frighten
your kids so much that they won’t
want to leave the house on Hallow-
een night, but just make sure they
are reminded of these tips before
they head out for a night of trick-
or-treating fun.
