Subject: Trainees’ Workshop on Ethical Issues in Bio-Medical Research.

Ethical issues in biomedical research have assumed great importance in research involving
human subjects as well as animal experimentation. It is thus essential that all researchers have
adequate knowledge of various ethical issues. In this regard, I am happy to inform you that
ICMR, New Delhi has been entrusted to conduct Workshops on Ethical Issues in biomedical
research under the WHO Biennium Program 2002-03. The objective of this initiative is to
familiarize the medical faculty with essential principles and practices of Ethics in biomedical
research. Six Health Sciences Universities/Institutions located at six States of the country are
involved in this program. KL Wig Centre for Medical Education & Technology, at the All
India Institute of Medical Sciences has been identified for the northern region.

In pursuance of this activity, a workshop is proposed to be held at AIIMS from


March 20-22, 2006 The objective of this workshop is to sensitize, disseminate information on
Ethical Guidelines and to increase awareness about them among researchers, biomedical
institutions and the community.

Considering your vast experience in this field, you have been chosen as a resource
person/expert for this workshop. Kindly let us know your willingness to participate latest by
15 March 2006. You are also requested to make a presentation of about 35 minutes on the
following topic:
