Fourth Grade

Unit Goal: Develop students ability to recognize and understand various music
forms

SOL:
4.5 Students will respond to music with movement by creating movements to
rondo musical form (ABACA)

Lesson Goal: Students will create body movements for rondos using Alpha Four.
Students will listen for the sections of songs and display the change through their
body motions.

Strategies:

Timeframe: two class meetings


Layout: use of whole room
Materials: Concert in E, Projector/Smart Board

Set:

 Class begins with listening example of rondo form - Concert in E by


Bach - go over history
 Display the sections of the piece on the board
 Divide class into 3 groups (A, B, C):
-Each group gets assigned a written section on the board
-Repeat song and have each group listen for their section
-Students will raise their hands when their section changes or
repeats
 Each group comes up with their own movements for
their section of the piece (surprise)
 have students demonstrate their knowledge of the
section changes by playing the piece
-Write RONDO sections on the board/explain
 Explain that next class students will be composing their own rondos
next class
Assessment:
 Assess students ability to accurately differentiate between the
different sections of the rondo through movements
