Informative Essay Proofread Checklist

Structure

 Contains thesis in intro paragraph


 Contains topic sentences for each body paragraph
 Contains a concluding paragraph
 Contains an objective and formal tone

Quotations

 Use quotations for titles of short stories and photo essay


 Use quotations for direct quotes
 Include the author’s last name (or “Fit for a King) and page number in parentheses for
quotations

Conventions

 Do not use “I”


 Do not use contractions (i.e. don’t, isn’t)
 Distinguish between “their,” “there,” and “they’re”
o Their= possessive (i.e. Their house is really pretty.)
o There= location (i.e. She lives over there by the school.)
o They’re= they are (i.e. They are on the way to the event.)
 Capitalize all proper nouns (i.e. names)
 Make sure all of the characters’ names are correctly spelled

Format

 Double spaced
 12 font
 Times New Roman
 Name, Teacher, Course, Due Date (upper left hand corner)
 Page number and last name (upper right hand corner) (i.e. Vuong-Dac 1)
