I am interested in becoming a Sports Medicine Physician.

I think it would be interesting to learn how I

can help people that are in pain. I think Sports Medicine might be a good fit but I am also interested in
Physical Therapy. I know they help injured athletes and other people recover from injuries and pain, but
I am sure there is a lot more to their job, so I want to learn more about that field as well.

Sports Medicine Physicians help people that are experiencing pain, especially athletes, help diagnose
injuries, and help people manage their main. Most sports medicine physicians work full time during
regular business hours. Some may work evenings or weekends. The median annual wage for sports
medicine physicians was $189,990 in May 2015. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $58,340, and
the highest 10 percent earned more than $266,400.

I am preparing myself for a possible career in this area by taking all my core classes, plus doubling up in
Science, and I plan on taking more electives focusing on Science in the years to come.

Some possible majors are Pre-medicine, Kinesiology, and Exercise and Sports Science. However, I would
have to go to med school to become a Doctor of Medicine. I know North Carolina and UVA offer degrees
in at least one of these possible majors. I would need to pass the MCAT exam, and pursue the
Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine.

My school list includes:

 The University of Notre Dame, COA-$67,000, My estimated cost is around $62,000

 The University of North Carolina, COA- $46,000, My estimated cost is around $44,000
 The University of Virginia, COA- $61,000, My estimated cost is around $58,000
 Boston University, COA- $67,000, My estimated cost is around $63,000
 Virginia Tech, COA- $45,000, My estimated cost is around $41,000

I would like to possibly interview or job shadow someone at UPMC or AGH Hospitals.

The interview I conducted was with Tom McConnell. He is a sports medicine physician at Greater
Pittsburgh Physical Therapy. I learned that a job in sports medicine is not like any other office job
because your hours can fluctuate and your job changes from patient to patient. I am still interested in
sports medicine because I know I can use it to help people and I know I want to work with people.
