SHORT DESCRIPTION

I-A. THE SYSTEM

Lap Pool Area = 155.42 m2

Pool Volume = 186 m3
= 49,136 gal
= 186,000 ltrs
Turnover rate = 6 hours
Flow Rate = 186 m3 / 6 hours
= 31 m3 / hr
= 818.93 gpm
= 51.66 lps (Filter Pump)

Kiddie Pool Area = 12.4 m2

Pool Depth = 0.6 m
Pool Volume = .44 m3
` = 1965 gal
Turnover rate = 6 hours
Flow Rate = 7.44 m3 / hr
Filtration Rate = (7.44 m3 / hr )/ m2
(given)
Filter Area = 1.24 / 12.4
= 0.1 m2
= 10.76 ft2
A well designed pool consists of removing dirty water from the bottom the pool,
pumping it through a filter, either D.E. or sand, and returning the clean to the top of the
pool. In this manner, in a pool undisturbed by bathers, the clean water sits on the top of the
dirty water until it too reaches the bottom. This means that all of the water contained in the
pool has passed through the filter in one session and thus is as clean as it can be.

If the system has not been designed in this manner, then it can never be effective.

For WEST TOWER & GARDEN BRIDGE swimming pools, ponds and features are
designed in accordance with the requirement based on design parameters. Considering the
pool volume capacity we adopted a three system that are interconnected with each other.
These systems are composed of a filter, motor pump and chemical feeder that are
functioning simultaneously which forms one system. These systems are interconnected by
means of pipes which are designed and properly installed to carry the loads/ pressures
driven by designated pumps/motors. These are controlled by ball valves connected top
pipes that are normally designed to control the suction and discharge.

II-A PUMP AND MOTOR

For WEST TOWER & GARDEN BRIDGE swimming pools, ponds and water features
systems we used STREAMPLUS pumps with nominal horse power of 7.5 hp and 2.0 hp,
PENTAIR Whisperflo pumps with nominal horse power of 3 hp, 1.5 hp and .75 hp with built
in fan to provide airflow for cooling. This are placed at the pump room and are
interconnected by by-pass valves to control and direct the flow of water from suction to
discharge. The by-pass valve also serves as an alternative re-direction of system for
maintenance purpose.

The pump and motor is usually a combined unit. Majority of swimming pools are
using a centrifugal pump that relies on the speed of the motor to operate efficiently. Usually
a speed of about 1700 rpm is required for efficient operation. The speed will depend on the
correct input voltage. Low water pressure in the system may not be due to a faulty motor
but low voltage. Check voltage and install a voltage regulator if there is more than 20%
voltage dip over half an hour.

III-A FILTER

There are basically two types of filter, each of which is dealt with separately. The
sand filter is easily recognizable as it usually consists of large steel tanks or tanks with an
opening that is closed by an oval door in the top. The D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) filter is
smaller and appears as a canister with a clamp band to allow the whole of the top to be
removed. Both, if they contain the correct material of the right grade and quantity, will
efficiently filter the water.
For WEST TOWER & GARDEN BRIDGE swimming pools, ponds and water
features we used three sets of sand filter. Basically this sand filter is composed of tis filter
tank and a variflo/manifold valves. Inside the filter tanks is a sand particles that are carefully
layered to meet the requirement for proper filtration flow. Normally sand filter can filter
dirts and debris up to 20 microns. Filters are also regulated based on the reading of pressure
gauges. (See attached brochures)

IV-A MULTIPORT VALVES

Multiport or variflo valves are normally seen connected to the filter. This are used to
manipulate the direction of water flow or the operation that is required for the swimming
pool. For example for the filtration process it should be on its proper positions to avoid
damage on filter tanks. Note that every operation on the variflo/multiport valves has
equivalent ball valve operation. (See ball valve operation)
