Acknowledgement
First and foremost I would like to thank to my family who always
support me to complete my project
and supporting me in financial, without them, I would not able
complete this project.
After about 14 weeks hardwork, I have finished my final year
project. In this acknowledgement
session, I would like to take this opprtunity to thank to those who
contributed in this process of this
final year project.
I would like to thank my first supervisor, Ms Jocelyn Tan. She is
mastery in software parts.She felt
glad and humble to teach me about programming. Secondly , I
want thank to Mr Alan Tiong for
helping me solve the hardware puzzle that always stuck in my
mind. He help me and describe the
components carefully and I was able to understand all those
explanation.
Lastly , I would like to thank to my course mates who helped in
my troubleshooting my final year
project. They always provide me some interesting idea. I would
like to thank to my another friend
which currently now study at UCTS. He help me a lot which
hardware part too and explain some
software I could found on my way.

Rain Alarm System
Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1
Overview
The title that I have chosen for my Final Year Project is Rain
Alarm System, the short for is
(RAS). In this report, I will briefly dscuss about the process
work, what problem we met and
the problem solving.
1.2
Introduction
Rain sensor
or rain switch is a switching device activated by rainfall.
There are two main
applications for rain sensors. The first is a
water conservation
device connected to an
automatic
irrigation
system that causes the system to shut down in the event of
rainfall. The
second is a device used to protect the interior of an
automobile from rain and to support the
automatic mode of
windscreen wipers
. An additional application in professional satellite
communications antennas is to trigger a rain blower on the
aperture of the antenna feed, to
remove water droplets from the
mylar
cover that keeps pressurized and dry air inside the
wave-guides.
In 1958, the
Cadillac Motor Car Division
of
General Motors
experimented with a water-
sensitive switch that triggered various electric motors to
close the convertible top and raise
the open windows of a specially-built
Eldorado Biarritz
model, in case of rain. The first such
device appears to have been used for that same purpose in
a concept vehicle designated
Le
Sabre
and built around 1950–51. For Model Year 1996, Cadillac
once again equipped cars
with an automatic rain sensor; this time to automatically
trigger the windshield wipers and
adjust their speed to conditions as necessary.
The most common modern rain sensors are based on the
principle of
total internal reflection
:
an
infrared
light is beamed at a 45-degree angle into the windshield
from the interior — if the
glass is wet, less light makes it back to the sensor, and the
wipers turn on. Most vehicles with
this feature have an "AUTO" position on the stalk.
