ESTETIKA: Aesthetic Center and Wellness Resort

Eunice Lemi, 2014

Estetika is a study which primarily aims to come up with an efficient redefinition of

a medical facility that would cater to the healing needs of its users, through the
coexistence of the healing principles of nature and technology. This study has examined
the specifics of the Aesthetic and Wellness Tourism Industry and its various factors for
economic growth opportunities through both global and local trends. Based on the
research and critical analysis, the Philippines with its resources, can be a globally
competitive medical tourist destination, and this study aims to achieve it by providing an
architectural design solution extending far beyond the current state of medical spas and
aesthetic clinics in the country. This study concludes that Health and Beauty are the two
main factors in achieving personal healing, and this is attained with the help of traditional
and innovative techniques all leading towards an Aesthetic, Preventive, and Well-being
Lifestyle fused into one building typology.

Health and Beauty are two of the most important factors to achieve personal healing.

Global and local trends show the existence of a growing population attracted to the medical and wellness tourism
industry. The growing demand is due to the increase in the demographic or the population with people constantly
striving to do what it takes to live longer and look younger as they age. It is also because of the increase in various
types of additional medical conditions, illnesses and issues concerning the health and well-being of people who need
special medical services and care.

The project, ESTETIKA, aims to integrate traditional healing rituals as well as micro invasive aesthetic treatments into
a wellness resort, redefining the healing space and the irony between aesthetic enhancements and natural beauty
through the coexistence of nature and technology.

ESTETIKA aims to promote the holistic recovery through fusion of Eastern traditional healing techniques(such as
Macrobiotics food nutrition; Natural therapies; and Lifestyle learning center) and the advanced Western
techniques (such as Healthy ageing; Aesthetics Medicine; and Physical rehabilitation) for rejuvenation, resulting to
both physical and physiological outputs to fulfill the attainment of inner and outer beauty.
The DESIGN PHILOSOPHY is basically summed up into the concept inspired by the biological process that
shapes chrysalis formations in nature. The chrysalis acts as a shell, shelter and a rehabilitation venue in preparation
for the holistic transformation of its user. The building is designed to mimic the random angles and lines of the chrysalis
shell embedded on woven silk pads, and the shell's translucence reflects the relationship of indoor and outdoor spaces.

This philosophy would then lead to the design concepts aimed to achieve 3 main goals which
are: PRIVACY, COMFORT and HOLISTIC LIFESTYLE for the users.
