At the said time, the petitioner was already in her 1st year residency at the University of Santo
Tomas Hospital and the respondent was working at the Malacanan Palace. Upon returning home in
Malacanan compound after her delivery, the petitioner decided to and was able hire a nanny to take
care of their son during her duty hours. She also made an arrangement with the respondent to take care
of their child during Sundays when the nanny is on day off.

13. On one Sunday of the year 1993, when the petitioner was allowed by her superior to leave work
early to take some rest, she caught the respondent in their house having an intimate moment with their
child’s nanny. She confronted the respondent and the nanny. At the end of their confrontation, she
realized that she has had enough of the respondent’s shenanigans.

14. At this point, the petitioner decided to temporarily leave their Malacanan home with Charles and
stayed at her ancestral house in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati. The respondent did not oppose her decision
even after being informed by the petitioner that she is already pregnant with their second child.

17. The respondent’s apparent reformation did not last long however. The respondent continued to
spend more and more time with his friends, “kumpare(s)” and now “panyero(s)”. Their celebrations and
drinking sprees became more extravagant and excessive. The petitioner also caught the respondent no
less than five times having extra-marital affairs with different women. The petitioner also discovered
that the respondent was still seeing their children’s former nanny when she saw them in a shopping mall
twice on different dates.
