At 25oC, an aqueous solution containing 35wt% H2SO4 has a specific gravity of

1.2563. A quantity of this 35% solution is needed that contains 195.5kg H2SO4.
a. Calculate required volume (L) of solution using given S.G.
b. Estimate S.G of solution using component S.G. of H2SO4 (SG=1.8255) and
water (S.G=1).
c. Calculate required volume (L) of solution using S.G estimated from part b.
d. Is the volume in part a and c different? Why? Calculate percentage error.
e. Calculate molar mass of solution.
f. Calculate mole fraction of H2SO4 and water.
g. Find concentration of H2SO4 (lbm/gal)
h. Find molarity of H2SO4 solution.
i. If a container containing such a solution (having 195.5 kg H2SO4), how long
will it take to empty it if the solution flows out at a rate of 2kmol/min.

b) ρH2O= 1 kg/L
ρH2SO4 = 1.8255x1kg/L = 1.8255 kg/L

given Part b given

d) Its different because in part b, to the estimate the S.G of the solution it was
assumed that the volumes are additive (i.e. Ideal solution). Part b has an error due
to this assumption.
