Ethical code:

A written set of guidelines issued by an organization to its workers and management

to help them conduct their actions in accordance with its primary values and ethical
standards.

Or
an ethical code is a set of moral principles used to govern the conduct of a
profession

The main principles of engineering ethical codes:

First of all,

Engineers uphold and advance the integrity, honor, and dignity of the
engineering profession by :

 using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare
and the environment;
 being honest and impartial and serving with fidelity the public, their
employers, and clients;
 striving to increase the competence and prestige of the engineering
profession; and
 supporting the professional and technical societies of their disciplines.

Fundamentals of engineering ethics:

There are seven main fundamental canons of engineering ethics :

*CANON 1. HOLD SAFETY PARAMOUNT

*CANON 2. SERVICE WITH COMPETENCE

*CANON 3. ISSUE TRUE STATEMENTS

*CANON 4. ACT AS A FAITHFUL AGENT

*CANON 5. REPUTATION BY MERIT

*CANON 6. UPHOLD PROFESSIONAL HONOR

*CANON 7. CONTINUE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

- The most important thing is to :

" TREAT ALL PERSONS FAIRLY"

# Now I'll illustrate three of these canons:

[]SERVICE WITH COMPETENCE:

Engineers shall perform services only in areas of their competence.

this canon means that an engineer may not seal an engineering plan or
document unless that document has been prepared or reviewed under his or
her supervisory control

[] REPUTATION BY MERIT

Engineers shall build their professional reputation on the merit of their

services and shall not compete unfairly with others.

This canon focus on the methods by which an engineer may attempt to gain
an unfair advantage over his or her competitors.

[] CONTINUE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Engineers shall continue their professional development throughout

their careers, and shall provide opportunities for the professional
development of those engineers under their supervision.
