Activity No. 2: Cheek Cells

Objectives:

1. To observe Cheek Cells under the use of microscope.


2. To identify the structure and the major parts of the Cheek Cells.

Materials:

 Toothpick
 Betadine
 Plastic Pipette or Medicine Dropper
 Microscope Slides (Slide)
 Microscope Cover Glass (Coverslips)
 Nail Polish
 Paper Towel

Procedure:

1. Gently scrape the inside of your mouth using a clean toothpick.


2. Smear the used toothpick on the center of the slide for only 2 to 3 seconds.
3. Add a drop of betadine and place a coverslip on top.
4. Allow a paper towel to touch one side of the coverslip to remove any excess solution.
5. Place the slide on the microscope.
6. Use 4x or 10x objective in position and find a cell.
7. Then view at higher magnification once the Cheek Cells have been found.
