MOST OF THIS CAME FROM A FORMER SD EMPLOYEE THAT VERIFIED THE INFO
·0 The JB is the same wind as the distortion but A5 vs ceramic. The invader bridge is
the same WIND as well but triple ceramic magnets and cap head screws.
·1 The custom, custom custom, custom 5 and full shred bridge are all the same wind
and the distortion neck is an underwound custom. Full Shred is not the exact same
coil as the Jazz
·2 The jazz neck, alnico 2 pro, full shred and invader neck are all the same winds
other than magnets and pole pieces, also the invader neck has a cap across one
coil to allow more treble through.
·3 NOTE: Frank Falbo, a former Product VP has confirmed that the Jazz neck and the
Full Shred necks are not the same winds. None of the PAF style winds are the
same.
·4 Jazz and Alnico II Pro are the same coils, neck and bridge. So a mag swap in either
of those transforms them into the other.
·5 Jazz has one slug coil and one screw coil with long fillisters, whereas the the FS
has two screw coils with short hexes.
·6 The Duncan Performer Series Detonator is a Duncan Distortion with caps screws.
(Does not have a threaded keeper bar under the coil for the pole screws to sit in.)
·7 The shape of the magnetic field, and the inductance shift from a keeper bar vs
slugs, for example, it all makes a significant difference. It all makes a difference,
really. For example you can take a PAF style construction pickup, and hear very
quickly what happens if you cut the 6 poles off flush with the baseplate.
·8 2/12/2018 INFO PULLED FROM SEYMOUR DUNCAN FORUM THE PICKUP LOUNGE
·11 A2 long / Scooped mids, chimey highs, warm sweet tones, loose feel.
·12 A2 short / Scooped mids, spankier tone than long A2.
·13 A3 long / Very weak, nice clarity for use in P90 pickups but very low output for PAF
pickups.
·14 A4 long / Balanced mids, treble and low end, drier toned than A2.
·16 A5 short oriented / mid dominant tone, fatter toned than long oriented A5.
·17 A5 long unoriented (Illinois) / Great low end clarity with good mids.
·18 A5 long unoriented (Indiana) / Less low end clarity more treble snarl, good mid
·20 Alnico 2 traces back to the days of the 1950 Telecasters. This class seems to work
well for middle-position pickups. It is known by its sweet, vintage tone, and there
seem to be little disadvantages to using it.
·21 Alnico 3 is the weakest of the three grades. It contains less cobalt, a core
ingredient in the rest of the Alnico family. Because of the decrease in magnetic
pull, it works wonders for neck pickups, where there is the most string vibration.
·22 Alnico 5 is the strongest of the three alnico grades. The tone and response of the
magnet is more powerful than its two cousins. This makes it perfect for bridge
pickups, where there is the least vibration. If you want an aggressive, in-your-face
kind of sound, Alnico 5 is your best bet.
·23 A stronger magnetic field is gonna put the frequencies into the upper mids and
create a stronger attack.
·24 A larger magnetic field creates more harmonics in the low end and midrange.
