    Simulation and emulation techniques are used to debug embedded software prior to hardware availability. Simulation allows for early firmware development using a SystemC model of the hardware, testing code functionality assuming model accuracy. However, simulation lacks a system view and true hardware timing accuracy for behavioral models only. Emulation addresses these limitations by executing code on actual silicon for hardware-accurate debugging.

    Simulation with a SystemC model of the hardware. This allows for a very early start of firmware
    development without any access to hardware and allows to test the functionality of the code
    assuming the model is accurate. The main limitations are lack of system view and (depending on
    the model accuracy) lack of hardware timing accuracy (behavioral models)
