COMMISSION ON WORSHIP
Guidelines
Lectors and Commentators

I. Qualifications
The candidate should be:
a. Sponsored by any active member of any organization or movement in the Parish;
b. Between 16 years old and 60 years old at the time of screening;
c. Good Catholic in faith and actions;
d. In good physical and mental health;
e. Above average in English and Filipino public oral communications skills;
f. A resident of or working within the parochial territory or affiliated with the Christian community and
recognized by the priest as a regular church-goer;
g. Able to submit the following documents to the screening committee:
i. Baptismal and confirmation certificates for single candidates
ii. Church wedding certificate for married candidates
h. Willing to grow in faith by attending dutifully the formation programs of the liturgical ministry;
i. Willing to fully accept the duties and responsibilities of Lectors and Commentators;
j. Willing to undergo training to develop and enhance skills necessary to accomplish tasks as a good lector and
commentator.

II. Admission
a. Each Parish shall establish a screening committee for LECOM.
b. The LECOM screening committee shall interview the candidate.
c. The LECOM coordinator recommends the potential new member to the LECOM Ministry.
d. The LECOM coordinator recommends the potential new member to the Head of the Parish Worship Ministry
and the Parish Priest.
e. The Parish Priest and the Head of the Parish Worship Ministry shall endorse them to the Diocesan Commission
on Worship to undergo basic liturgical formation for LECOM.
f. Having completed the basic formation seminar, the director on the Commission on Worship shall grant a
certificate of completion to the participant as new member of the Parish LECOM Ministry.

III. Formation Program


a. The basic formation seminar for new LECOM will be handled by Diocesan Commission on Worship;
b. The renewal for old LECOM will be handled by the Vicariate Worship Ministry but the modules will be
provided by the Diocesan Commission on Worship;
c. On-going formation for LECOM will be handled by Diocesan Commission on Worship, Vicariate and Parish
Formations Teams;
d. Latecomers (by 15 minutes) shall no longer be admitted.

IV. On-going Formation


a. The members of the LECOM are obliged to attend annually the renewal formation seminar; failure to attend
said seminar will result to non-renewal of the service;
b. The members are required to attend all on-going formation seminars.
c. Latecomers (by 15 minutes) shall no longer be admitted.

V. Recognition
a. Complete attendance in all monthly meetings and all scheduled services within the liturgical year shall be
awarded with a certificate of recognition duly signed by the Director of the Commission on Worship and His
Excellency, the Bishop of Novaliches.

VI. Offenses and Sanctions
a. One (1) absence from the parish monthly meetings shall result to a suspension of service for the whole of the
following month;
b. Failure to service the scheduled duty/service twice within a month will result to a suspension of service for
one (1) month;
c. The Parish Priest, Head of the Parish Worship Ministry and LECOM Ministry shall determine the degree of
sanctions depending on their parish situation and condition.

VII. Varia
a. A month prior to a long-term absence, a leave-of-absence letter shall be submitted to the Parish Priest or
Coordinator stating the circumstances or conditions regarding the said absence.
b. Members who filed a certificate-of-candidacy for public office shall automatically be on a leave-of-absence.
After election, duties will resume regardless of the election results. The member shall accomplish his/her duty
with no conflict of interest in favor of his/her political duties.
c. An expelled LECOM may not be admitted nor transferred to another parish without the endorsement, referral
or clearance from the parish priest.

VIII. Liturgical Attire


a. The male LECOM shall wear white long-sleeved barong, black pants, black leather shoes and black socks for
Sunday celebrations and solemnities and Diocesan liturgical activities.
b. The male LECOM shall wear white short-sleeved polo shirt, black pants, black leather shoes and black socks for
weekday celebrations.
c. The female LECOM shall wear white gala gown over white blouse and black skirt (at least 3 inches below the
knee) and black closed shoes for Sunday celebrations and solemnities and Diocesan liturgical activities.
d. The female LECOM shall wear white blouse and black skirt (at least 3 inches below the knee) and black closed
shoes for weekday liturgical celebrations

IX. Age of Retirement


a. For LECOM, retirement age is 75 or upon proper evaluation, until they can no longer perform the duties
assigned to them;
b. Proper pastoral care will be given to retirees and they will be encouraged to join other ministries with lesser
responsibilities.
