Flame Test

I. Objectives:
1. To determine the color of the flame produced by each salt when denatured
alcohol is applied in the experiment.
2. To identify the possible cation(s) contained in the unknown solution in the
experiment.

IV. Special Notes (Proper Waste Disposal, Safety Precautions):


A. Safety Precaution:
1. Remove all flammable materials from the demonstration area.
2. Wear safety goggles while preparing the set-up and during the
demonstration.
B. Waste Disposal:
Any leftover salt can either be used in another demonstration or be disposed. To
dispose it, dissolve the leftover salt in a small amount of water before disposing
it in a waste container.
