Experiment No. 4
Electrolytes and Non-Electrolytes

I. Objectives:
1. To test the conductance of each of the solutions used in the experiment.
2. To classify the intensity of glow of the light bulb when subjected to each of the
solutions in the experiment as strong or weak if present, and none if absent.

II. Outline/Schematic Diagram of Procedure:

Refer to the (small) Blue Record Journal for the outline.

III. Special Notes (Proper Waste Disposal, Safety Precautions):

A. Safety Precaution:
Laboratory safety goggles must be worn throughout the experiment.
B. Waste Disposal:
1. Dispose all acidic solutions into the “Inorganic Waste” container.
2. For salt, sugar, NH3 + HCl, and NH3 + CH3COOH solutions, dilute first with
water before directly flushing them down the sink with copious running
water.
