YOU WILL RECEIVE POWER

Acts 1:1-26

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
I. JESUS PROMISES TO GIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT (1-8)

1. Who wrote the book of Acts (1)? To whom did he write this book? What did the author
write about in his former book (2) What does the writer mean by the phrase “All that
Jesus began to do and to Teach?” (James 22-23, Luke 4:18-19, Acts 10:38)

2. What did Jesus do for the forty days following his resurrection (3)? What were some of
the Proofs that He gave His disciples concerning His resurrection (John 20:27)? What
did Jesus Speak about Particularly? (3b) What is the Kingdom of God? (Romans 14:17)
What command and promise did he give to his disciples (4, 5)? Why did he give this
command to them?

3. What were the disciples expecting from Jesus (6)? Why were the Jews expecting such a
thing? What was Jesus’ answer to the disciples question (7)? What time and Season was
Jesus referring to? (Matthew 24:36)

4. What did Jesus promise the disciples to receive (8a) instead? Why did they need Power?
What kind of Power was Jesus talking about (Acts 2:2-4) What was this power meant to
be used for? (8b)? To what distance should they go to obey his command? Think about
your Christian life, how has this power been of effect in your life? (Acts 4:13, Ex 31:3)

5. What happened after Jesus had given them this command (9)? What might his disciples
have felt at that time? What were the angels promise to the disciples (10, 11)? What is
the meaning of this promise to the disciples? How will Jesus Come back? (Revelation 1:7)
II. PRAYING TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT (12-26)

6. Following their encounter with Jesus, where did the disciples meet (12, 13a)? Who was
there (13b, 14)? What does the Phrase “they went upstairs” mean (Matthew 24:36)

7. What was the first thing they did (14)? With what kind of attitude did they pray?
(Matthew 18:19 )

8. How man believers were there (15)? What issue did Peter recognize while they were
praying (16, 17)? Why might the memory of Judas be so critical at this moment? What
did Jesus teach about Team Work? (Mark 3:24)
