Lab Exercise
Using Primavera P6

In this exercise you will learn how to use Primavera P6 (Release 6.0) in creating a project
schedule. You will be guided on how to create a new project, define a calendar for the project,
create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), insert activities, and assign the relationship between
activities.

Define Project:
1. Open Primavera P6.
2. Go to file ›New
- A wizard screen will appear asking for project-related details. Insert the project name
(e.g. Scheduling Lab) and project start date (14-Oct-11), then press Finish.
3. Right click on the project created, and then choose Open Project.

Define Calendar:
4. Go to Enterprise › Calendars
- Click Add, and a new screen will appear. Select to add a new calendar.
- Name the calendar “5 working days calendar with no official holidays”.
- Click Modify to enter the work week hours.
Note: after inserting all activities, highlight each activity and assign the defined calendar to it

Define WBS:
5. Go to Project › WBS
- Create a WBS using the navigation panel located on the far right.
- Use the navigation panel located on the left to return to the activities layout.

Add Activities:
6. On the navigation panel located on the far right, click Add to define a new activity.

- Highlight the WBS that you will be inserting activities under, and, on the navigation
panel located on the far right, click Add to define a new activity.
- A wizard screen will appear asking for project-related details.
- Insert the activity ID and activity name and press Finish.
- Repeat the same steps for inserting activities until all activities have been inserted.

Assigning Relationships:
7. Highlight the activity that you would like to assign a predecessor/successor to, and then
press the predecessor/successor tab located on the navigation panel at the far right.
Choose the required predecessor/successor and select it.
8. On the bottom layout, choose Relationships, and assign relationship type and lag (if
applicable).
9. After assigning all relationships, assign the defined calendar for each activity by choosing
General from the bottom layout, and clicking on Activity Calendar. Repeat the same
step for all activities to define the calendar for each activity.

Performing Schedule Run:


10. Press F9 and click Schedule.
