KALOS SCOPOS (Beautiful Watcher)

B. We constructed the improvised kaleidoscope using cheap and scrap materials to view
beautiful patterns and compare the commercially produced kaleidoscope with the
improvised one. In terms of the patterns that is produced, because the patterns are
incorporated with the designs of the tapestries, carpets, wallpaper, fabric and more. The
patterns that is produce is commonly known as “Mandala”. Kaleidoscopes is also
incorporated with the color therapy or chromotherapy into kaleidoscope viewing. In
chromotherapy, different colors have been found to be associated with various positive
emotions and aid in bringing these emotions about. Not only that, but to have fun using
the improvise kaleidoscope is one of our main reason.
C. The main objective of our improvised material is to produce symmetrical, beautiful
and fascinating repeating figures using scrap materials because one of the benefits of
using kaleidoscope is to show the simple laws of physics such as multiple reflection,
manipulating light, and laws of reflection.
D. When looking through the hole, light filters through the glass (or clear plastic) on the
end of the object chamber and illuminates the objects, which then reflect off of all of the
mirrors. The reflections bounce off of one another as the light passes through the tube.
The eye sees these bouncing reflections, creating the patters. As the kaleidoscope rotates,
the objects shift in the chamber, and the reflection changes, creating new patterns. The
concept is simple, but creates a wonderful end result that delights and entertains.
E. Materials to be used:
Tissue roll plastic cover
Mirrors decorative materials
Colorful beads adhesives
I. Assemble the rectangular mirrors into a triangle shape. Using adhesives stick the back
of each of the mirrors to make a triangle shape like mirror. (NOTE: the reflective part is
inside)
II. Put the triangle mirror inside the tissue roll.
III. Cut a circle in the plastic cover then place it in the bottom of the tube.
IV. Place the colorful beads in the top of the plastic cover and cover it again with a circle
shape plastic cover.
V. For the eye piece, trace the top of the tube in a card board then cut it. Don’t forget to
cut a small circle in the middle then glue it.
VI. When the adhesives dry have fun using your simple and easy to make kaleidoscope.
F. In using the kaleidoscope look in the hole of the eye piece then start rolling the
kaleidoscope so that you can create different fascinating and beautiful figures.
G. The limitation of our project is the absence of light. Without light you cannot use your
kaleidoscope.
