Lear procedures that result in Reduced building first cost and total delivered construction cost Reduced life cycle cost: energy, maintenance, operations, replacement, and productivity Increased quality and enhanced value ‘Owner and occupant satisfaction Upon course completion the student will be able to: Explain the criteria for Commissioning and the Commissioning process for New Construction, Existing Buildings (Retro-commissioning and Re-commissioning), and Exterior Enclosure, Assemblies and Systems (Envelope). Describe the Commissioning requirements for LEED and Green Globes projects. Understand the differences in Cx requirements between LEED v3 and LEED v4 Identity the requirements to become a Commissioning Agent and the organizations that provide testing ang certification. ‘Compare the differences in costs of Commissioning for varying project scopes and gain an understanding of the costs associated with not commissioning a building Establish goals and outline tasks for pre-design phase commissioning Conduct an OPR workshop/Develop the OPR and the Cx Plan Understand the structure and content of a construction document review (an example review will be performed in class) Develop Commissioning process checklists Understand the fundamentals of HVAC systems testing procedures and functional performance tests, Discuss the variety of "building issues and deficiencies” from design to construction phases of a given project and leam how to write a site visit report. Work with design, construction and operations & maintenance teams to compile a systems manual with recommendations for future testing procedures. John has successfully ed the commissioning effort for over 1 milion 2 of commercial new and existing building space. He has also performed assessments for over 80 buildings on behalf of the Green Building Initiative for projects seeking @ Green Globes or Guiding Principles certification, John's innovative approach to building design ‘analysis and systems testing has assisted a wide range of private and public owner groups to achieve their project requirements and design & construction tears to deliver a fully functional final product that performs according to design intent. Prior to joining the Cross Creek Initiative, John was a Design Engineer and PV Contractor with Cirion Energy ‘Systems in Austin, TX., an altemative energy company focused mainly on the installation of gtc-tied photovoltaic systems for commercial and residential buildings. John began his career in Sustainabilty with Cyanotech Corporation and Mera Pharmaceuticals at the Natural Energy Laboratory in Kona, HI. As a Research Engineer, he designed and conducted experiments directed at using flue gasses to cultivate and process microalgae for use as bio-fuel products. John holds a B.S, (Mechanical Engineering) from Yale University, He is a founding member of ISLE (International Society For Landcare Emissions) and teaches the Learning To LEED, Green Building Fundamentals for the LEED Green Associate, Green Globes Professional and Commissioning for High Performance Green Buildings courses for the University of Florida TREO Center.
