KEY FACTS OF THE HOLLIE GREIG CASE

1) HOLLIE’S CLAIM TO HAVE BEEN ABUSED BY A PAEDOPHILE RING IS BACKED UP BY

MEDICAL EVIDENCE: Hollie was abused first by her father and brother but then as a pupil at
Beechwood Special School in Aberdeen, a fact which is borne out by 2 doctors’ reports issued in 1990
and 1992 when she was 10 and 12 respectively. The first relates to Hollie having contracted a sexually-
transmitted disease while at the school and the second to her exhibiting inappropriate behaviour which
the doctor believed to be consistent with her having had sexual experience. Both reports were covered
up by Hollie’s GP, Dr James Maitland and the head-teacher Andrew Young. Furthermore, when Hollie
complained to her mother Anne Greig of pain down below Dr Maitland told her mother that this was due
to her general medical condition. All Hollie’s abusers have been named to Grampian police and they are
in possession of the 2 doctors’ reports yet they have never investigated these crimes;

2) HOLLIE BEING DOWN’S SYNDROME IS A CREDIBLE WITNESS: The fact that Hollie is Down’s
Syndrome is one of the strongest elements in her defence. As anyone who works with or is close to DS
people knows they are unable to lie or make things up, they can only recount what they have actually
experienced. By the same token they find it very hard to ‘blot out’ unpleasant memories. Hence Hollie
who is bright as well as being DS still clearly remembers everything that happened to her, including
names and places and other details. Although she has the usual handicaps suffered by DS people
including poor sight and hearing and an enlarged tongue making it difficult to speak clearly she has
been interviewed 3 times alone (ie. not ‘incopax’) by police who said she was a credible witness;

3) HOLLIE’S PAEDOPHILE HEADMASTER REMAINED IN POST 10 YEARS AFTER HOLLIE FIRST

REPORTED HIM TO THE POLICE AND HAS NEVER BEEN QUESTIONED: The headmaster of
Beechwood Special School, Andrew Young, named by Hollie as one of the 22 people who abused her
and who she says allowed other paedophiles access to pupils during the 1990s has never been
interviewed by the police. Young was however interviewed by Robert Green (see below), to whom he
admitted that he lived for a time with 2 of Hollie’s other named abusers, PC Terry Major (now deceased)
and his wife Sylvia who is a cousin of Hollie’s abuser father, Denis Charles Mackie. Young was due for
retirement in July 2011 but this was brought forward to April 2010.

4) HOLLIE’S UNCLE WAS MURDERED BUT THE POLICE ACCEPTED IT WAS ‘SUICIDE’ AND DID
NOT INVESTIGATE: Anne’s brother Roy Greig mysteriously ‘committed suicide’ by setting fire to his
car in 1997, shortly after stumbling upon Hollie being abused by her father Denis Mackie – Mackie told
Roy “I’ll kill you”. For 12 years Anne, being Roy’s next of kin struggled to obtain a copy of the autopsy
report. She knew it was very rare for anyone to commit suicide by fire, it is just too painful and that fact
alone should have alerted the police to the possibility of foul play. When she finally laid hands on the
report in 2009 it confirmed her suspicions that her brother had been murdered – he had been found
with a quantity of whisky in his stomach (Roy hated whisky) and with multiple injuries including
fractures to his ribs, sternum and skull, in a burning car parked in a lay-by. The police however have
failed to investigate this highly-suspicious death and no one has been charged, which means the
murderer/s are still at large and a threat to others (Denis Mackie and Hollie’s brother now live in
Portugal, a haven for paedophiles);

5) HOLLIE’S MOTHER WAS SECTIONED BY POLICE WITHOUT A WARRANT: In summer 2000

Hollie at last managed to tell her mother about the abuse she had suffered all through her childhood
and on 25 August, with Anne’s help she reported it to the Aberdeen police, naming at the time 16
individual abusers as well as 2 fellow-victims, the children of her social worker. 11 days later, on 5th
September 2 social workers and psychiatric consultant Dr Alastair Palin arrived at the Greigs’ home in
order to section Anne. When Anne protested they pinned her down and forcibly injected her with anti-
psychotic and sedating drugs and took her to the mental health unit of Cornhill Hospital Aberdeen. She
was able to extricate herself by obtaining a second opinion on her mental condition from consultant Dr
Ellen Smith who pronounced her mentally sound. On 13th October her solicitor, Yvonne McKenna of
Glenrothes wrote to the Scottish Mental Welfare Commission to request a copy of the warrant whereby
she had been sectioned. On 1 November a letter came back from Yvonne Osman of the SMWC stating
that there was “no record of the warrant”. Dr Palin was subsequently forced to acknowledge that there
was nothing wrong with Anne. Note: while Anne was being held in Cornhill Hospital Hollie was handed
back to her abuser father, Denis Mackie;
6) HOLLIE WAS AWARDED COMPENSATION FOR BEING INJURED IN A CRIME WITHOUT A
CRIME NUMBER! After years of complaints and pressure on the authorities, Hollie was awarded the
sum of £13,500 by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, yet there was no Crime Number
attached to this award;

7) ROBERT GREEN HAS BEEN ARRESTED TWICE AND HIS HOME RAIDED; ANNE & HOLLIE’S
HOME WAS RAIDED AND TRASHED BY POLICE: Robert Green, Hollie and Anne’s legal
representative has been arrested twice by Grampian police on charges of breaching the peace when
acting in fulfilment of his legal duty to investigate and report crime. Both he and Anne & Hollie have
suffered police raids on their homes in Warrington and Shrewsbury respectively. In neither case was
there a warrant though property was removed. The Greigs’ home was also trashed and their personal
photographs have been posted on the internet.
